64 MW out of Dayton Ohio "Nasty Rumor" Charlie Frazier - 01/16/12 02:18 AM

Does anyone remeber a 1964 Plymouth Maxwedge car raced out of Dayton Ohio owned & driven by Charlie Frazier. It was two tone blue dark at the bottom lighter at the top, blue interior. I went and looked at it today still owned by his daughter with 2,200 miles on it race car from day one. If you have any Vintage race pictures of it please post them or email them to me

Thanks Brian mobishop440@netzero.net

I remember that car very well. I have a color picture of it when we raced at the Div 3 Bracket Finals in Bowling Green, Ky.
I'll have to wait till my wife gets home to help me get downstairs to the main computer & see if I can find it. I just had 2nd operation on my broken leg & just got the staples out yesterday. There's a lot of stairs/steps to try without someone here in case my leg gives out.
I've got several thousand pics to go through so it might take a couple of days to find it.

I vaguely remember that car from 1978-79, looks like a nice piece but you could build a clone for NSS with engine and trans for less than they are asking. For NHRA S/S I would find a complete running car for that money. For a collector car..forget it...missing too many parts.

I'm going to try to post this. I've got a new computer & haven't figured it all out yet. If I can't I'll e-mail it.
A friend of mine thats into chevy's was taking the pics as I was too busy racing my own car.
I thought I had it turned right. Guess I'll go school myself again.

Charley had two. He bought mine in 1986 and raced it some. One sold last year. The other was a hardtop, this one has the post as did mine. It also looks like this has the scoop and his other one didn't. Moprod has a pic of the other one. After looking at the add, I don't think this is the one I sold him, (ex Flack & Comstock, Plum Crazy).I see a couple of little things that make me think this. For what its worth, mine had both steel and aluminum front ends that went with the car when Charlie bought it.

Just for clarification (and thanks to Cudaboy fr turning my picture the right way) the picture I posted was the car Charlie raced in 1979 all year.

This is the picture from BeechBend Raceway for the Dv 3 Fnals.

A side story from that meet. We got there on Wed evening before TT were to start on Friday. We set everything up in the campground as most did. It started raining and didn't stop. The river overflowed, they emptied the laundryroom and we all had to packup and move up to near the gate on higher ground.

Some guys were staying in town and didn't know what was going on. They brought tow trucks in to help get cars out of the flood. There were stories of someone stepping out of his motorhome into chest-deep water. Another told of a chopped top Vega that was completely covered.

When the river finally went down enough (we still couldn't use the return road) They ran us down the 1/4 mile then did a u-turn and switched sides of the track and drove on the outside of each lane and drove back toward the starting line as the next 2 cars got ready to make their run. This was done in all 4 classes that weekend.

Here's a photo I have of one of Charlies cars. When I talked to him a few years back I thought he said he had two sedans(post) cars. Not sure which one this is. I heard Charlie passed away.

FYI,

Great pic, I see Jerry Daily's SS/AA and Bob Marshall's trailer.

Aquamist60, I was there too at BG in '79, we were at the campground and it rained so hard all our stuff was soaked, I had a street car and 4 of us piled into it and went into town to find a cheapo hotel, 2 guys got single beds and 2 were on the floor, at least it was dry. Sometime during the night, the desk ringed us and asked if we were racers, they said they were pulling cars and trailers out of the track because the water was rising, we went back into the rain after a few hours sleep, the other guys found thier stuff pulled up to the entrance road. It took a long time to dry the track, we were over at the go-cart track in the afternoon spending our get-home gas money when one of our track team-mates wives came over and told us, "they are starting eliminations!" We hoofed it over there and I barely made the first round. It was too bad because I made it to 4th or 5th round and got no money, didn't get home until 1:00 AM Monday morning, it was OK because I was a college student and probably skipped classes and slept all day...

Here is the junkpile I had back then, pics are from '80 when they moved the meet over to Indy.

Frito, Know anything about the front end damage in your pic? I'm pretty sure that happened at KilKare while Charlie was sitting in the waterbox. I think it was a Camaro that backed into him. If you knew Charlie at all then you knew just how ugly that night ended.

This Is Nick Frazier, Charlie Frazier's Son. I remember that weekend very well. I was 11 and it rained all weekend and flooded everything. on a side note, we all ended up with food poisoning that weekend as well. lol. Thanks for some of the great pics you have posted on here. I miss those days very much. I am sure my Father would be more then flattered. For those of you who don't know, Dad passed away in Dec. of 2007. Just seeing these old pics and reading the stories is a huge honor and brings a tear to me eye. Thank You Everyone !!

Re: 64 MW out of Dayton Ohio "Nasty Rumor" Charlie Frazier - 02/21/12 06:25 PM

FRITO,
YOU ARE VERY CORRECT. THE PICS POSTED IN THIS THREAD ARE OF THE ORIGINAL NASTY RUMOR SS/DA MAX WEDGE CAR. THAT CAR WAS STRIPPED DOWN SAND BLASTED AND WAS IN A STATE OF TOTAL RESTORATION FROM CHASSIS UP, WHEN IT WAS SOLD TO DEAN MINK IN CINCINNATI, OHIO AREA. THE LAST I KNEW DEAN HAD THE CAR ACID DIPPED AND REDID THE CAR COMPLETELY WITH A HEMI AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE RAN IT IN SS/BA FOR A WHILE. I COULDN'T TELL YOU IF DEAN STILL OWNS THE CAR AT THIS POINT OR NOT. THE SECOND CAR YOU ARE REFERRING TO IS THE CAR IN THE PICTURES FROM RACING JUNK. I WILL VERIFY THIS FOR YOU BY TELLING YOU THAT CAR HAD A SCENE PAINTED ON THE BACK REAR UPPER QUARTER NEAR THE GLASS, AND THE CAR WAS A DARK BLUE AS WELL WITH THE BODY LINE "STRIPE" THAT CHANGED COLOR FROM FRONT TO BACK. SOUND FAMILIAR ?? LOL THE REASON I KNOW ALL THESE PARTICULARS IS BECAUSE CHARLIE WAS MY FATHER. (HE PASSED AWAY IN DEC. OF 2007) ALSO IF YOU LOOK CLOSE AT THE FRONT FENDERS OF THE ORIGINAL NASTY RUMOR YOU WILL SEE A SMALL AREA THAT READS " # 2 PEDAL PUSHER NICKEY" YOURS TRULY. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE PICS IF ANYONE HAS ANY. MISS MY FATHER DEARLY.

THANK YOU,
NICK FRAZIER

THIS IS ACTUALLY THE LAST CAR MY FATHER PURCHASED BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY. IT WAS PURCHASED FROM RICK NELSON WHO ALSO CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR DAD UNTIL MY SISTER BEGAN DRIVING IT SHORTLY BEFORE HIS DEATH IN 2007.

A crazy story, when I went to Michigan to pick up this car it had the aluminum fenders and hood/scoop,the guy had a steel front end also. You could tell it had some lettering that had read, Nasty Rumor. Both front ends were included when I sold the car to your dad, as a matter of fact he bought my trailer also. He got the transmission but no motor. Some know that there is some history to this car but more on that later.

Very much a history. The car that is on racing junk is that car. not the Nasty Rumor that was sold to Mink. But, we will have to talk on the phone sometime and trade stories. Gonna send you my number in a private message
