Looks beautiful!

Be safe and have fun.

BTW - isn't 150 mph a little overkill by about 30 mph or so? Are you planning on idling up to the 330' beam then nail it?

Wow what a nice Cuda. My buddy also runs Super/Street with his 68 Cuda but its not as fast as yours as his is a basic 440 with Indy SR heads. This will run 10.0's flat out at about 132. Have you ran your car flat out before ? Good luck in that fine Cuda. Ron

Not great news, but not on a wrecker..

Electrical issues.. That's why we test..

Car was down about 4 mph from last time out in better air..

Changed jets.. No change.. in ET or MPH..

Made a third run and lost oil pressure..

Decided to call it a day..

Did a compression test.. Found something weird..

#1-- 195
#3-- 198
#5-- 198
#7-- 200

#2-- 160
#4-- 180
#6-- 185
#8-- 181.... Beats Me.. Passenger bank is screwy.. No blow by, smoke or water..

So that's why we test..

Going to cut open the filter, and do a leak down..

Why do I do this again?

Car was a hit though.. saw a couple of members there..

Proof that I was there..

Good luck with the motor, hope it turns out to be nothing, but the info you provided doesnt sound good.. but here's to you getting the car back out to the track

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/04/12 11:04 AM

Okay..

Leaked the motor down.. All's well there.

#2 cylinder intake valve lash was set wrong.. Reset and it came right back up to the other cylinders.

Cut open the oil filter and it was clean..

Going to pull the pan and check bearings.. Better safe..

Drained 12qts of oil out of a 10qt pan and filter..

Couldn't possibly have sucked the pan dry..

Question

Could losing oil pressure at top end be attributed to the bypass valve in oil pump cover??

Pressure came up immediately after lifting at top end..

Chris..

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/04/12 05:06 PM

Maybe cavitating the oil pump? What was the stripe RPM?

In my opinion that Mildon pan, at least I think you have the Milodon one, is not the best at controlling windage, or keeping the pickup covered especially in the shutdown. I personally would not rule out that as a possiblity.

Have you had a chance to check the valvesprings yet??

Evidently your motor did suck the pan dry just before your driver lifted at the top end I have had oil pressure issues with the bypass valve sticking in the pump cover, it was not a intermittent now and then RPM related problem. It was stuck or it wasn't I have seen my motor lose oil pressure momentarily at the end of a run when the oil level was down a quart, I know a lot of other racers with big oil pans say that it is normal for there motors to lose oil pressure at the other end when they lift, so they shut the motor off and put it into nuetral Which oil pan and how many quarts are you running in it now? Something is amiss I fear, having ten quarts in and twelve quarts come out Usually it is the other way around, especially on a new motor or one that has ben apart all the way and reassembled and reused the first time The new oil fills all the nooks and crannys as well as th all the oil passages don't drain back

RPM about 7300..

Oil Pan is Milodon 31160 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-31160/

Haven't checked the springs.. Don't have a tool to get them off while on the motor..

I need the one that Koffel sells..

That an LSM took. Lance is a cool guy that makes some kick butt stuff. Find them here, or at Summit actually

http://www.lsmproducts.com/

Oh yeah IMO that is not the best pan out there, just sayin

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/05/12 07:32 AM

Would a scraper or different windage tray help..

Or just a different pan..

Going to order one of those SC-320's from LSM..

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/05/12 08:31 AM

if you need the tool for removing the springs on the head i have one that i made when i was running the B1MC heads that you can have if you want it. it has a short shaft for one cylinder at a time with old B1 stands to hold it and the tool to push down on the retainer. let me know if you want it. wes

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/05/12 04:42 PM

Chris all I am going to ad here is that there is HP to be found with the proper oil pan. Reducing windage, reducing oil in suspension are the reasons why. Also a better baffled pan will make sure there is oil there on decel..Just sayin

I am sure everyone has used that Milodon pan and never had a problem. Then again how many of them have tried something different. Let the flaming throwing begin

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/05/12 05:08 PM

We ran a home made pan for years, then went to a 8 qt charlie oil pan and when I would lift it would lose oil pressure, I switched to the mil. 10 qt and never had a problem after that. Not saying you could or don't but it seemed like it was not enough oil left in the pan on at the end of the run.

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago........ - 01/05/12 05:47 PM

What size drain backs are you using to the pan. I am using 8's in the front and 10's in the back.

Don't have a gauge on it yet, but it's an Aerospace..

And it's wide open.

Drain backs are #8 on all 4..

Re: Going Racing... Finally almost 4 years ago......... - 01/08/12 01:25 PM

Checked the bearings.. All good..

When looking in the pan, we found a couple of small metal pieces.

They were black.. And Magnetic..

Timing chain coming apart.. Less than 20 runs..

JP Performance 5606T.. Just letting everyone know..

I've used these before with no issues..

Still can't figure out why we sucked the pan dry..
