Try the old isky 616-590 grind, it's not in there catalogs anymore but they will grind it for you I think it is around 280@.050 with .616 gross lift on the intake and .590 gross lift on the exhaust side Better than the Mopar 590 grind

512 in a 3200 lbs car here I have 11.3-1 compression and edelbrock performer heads and use a ultradyne .640 lift solid flat tappet cam car runs in the 10.20s i would think with your added compession, better heads and lighter wt you should be right were you want to be with a cam in that range ultradynes seem to make good power this cam was in a buddies 451 and he took it out to go with a bigger roller and really dident gain a thing.

Re: how much cam - 12/16/11 06:10 AM

I got a custom grind cam from Dwayne Porter for my 493. Mine is a street car but I told him I like a lumpy idle and want to make alot of power. It is a solid flat tappet that is 264 and 270 @.050. Lift is right about .590 but I use 1.6 rockers and have about .630 lift. Ground on a 110 LSA and I have it in on a 106 centerline. I really like it alot. My eng is a 493 and the car weighs 3700 with me. It runs 92 pump and I race it as I drive it thru the pipes. It has run 10.70's so far. I would call Dwayne or who ever you prefer but that eng could use a nice cutom grind. Good luck , Ron

To run 10.00 on a 100 degree day would require over 650 hp off the dyno, or there abouts. The biggest flat tappet that will work in your motor and converter combo is the direction I would head. Unported heads that are basically cleaned up will need plenty of cam to compensate. My 499 with cleaned up -1 heads at 3,000 lbs would go 9.50s with a .717 lift roller of 283/290/110 duration. You have a little less head, and want to run a flat tappet, in air that will cost you two tenths over what I ran in.
