D/W Series steering column interchange question - 02/13/22 02:11 AM

How did these change through the years? Will a mid 80's tilt column fit in a '76? Bolt in? Fits with modifications? If anybody has first hand experience, that would be great to hear about. TIA.

anything can be made to work on anything. lots of different wiring between the 2. my 76 has a tilt column but is totally different than any of my other 81-93 tilts. the usual break down is 72-75, 76-80,81-87, 88-93. i was in touch with a giy on facebook named mike slay. he buys, sells, trades used and nos stuff. he told me he has/had a tilt for a 76 like mine for 250.00. that is cheap i thing, but being retired and on ss, it is more than i can spend.

No. Not without a lot of work. When you say mid 80's what year exactly? 87 and newer are very different.

trw1982 That is good info. Thanks for the response.

NITROUSN Found a seller of one who only list it as a mid 80's. Picture from the ad below will maybe help identify it.

I see you referenced it going into a 76. 1 problem will be no shift indicator. 2-you will need to source a intermediate shaft from the column to the gear box. Then you have to look at the wiring?

I don't really do facebook so I have no idea how I would find the gentlemen you mention trw1982. However, NITROUSN your points are noted. Shift indicator is not an issue. Manual trans in my '76. In fact it is a new toy I just picked up. It is a put together rig from a W100 and a D100 both original /6 with the manual hump. So it has a muddy pedigree, but has good bones. The '78 long bed AdventurerSE I had from 1980 until 1997 had a tilt in it. This one has had a 318 put in it with an A833 OD and floor shift. I have numerous plans for it, but fixing the minor issues and enjoying it for now is what is on the immediate list.

Thank you for that business card. I tried the Facebook thing, but there were numerous Mike Slay listings.

Call that number or use that email address. Mike usually is pretty responsive, unless he's on the road picking new parts or delivering. I've bought a few things from him for my '73 truck, and always had good luck with him.
