NP 435 question - 01/17/21 09:25 PM

On the NP 435 trans, the bearing retainer has a "bump" or a raised rib, whatever you want to call it. Does it have a position? One person told me 6 o'clock. I coulda swore it was at 4 o'clock when I removed it. I can't tell from the exploded view photos. Thank-you

Look at the backside, there's probably a groove in the casting, I bet about 38 inch wide by maybe 34 inch long. Its an oil return passage.

It should line up with an unthreaded hole in the case around the bearing.

Don't forget some thread sealer on the bolts, pretty sure they go through the casting.

iagree Yep just line up the hole in the case with the machined groove in the retainer and gasket.

I agree, make sure to line up hole with retainer groove. this is to oil front input bearing. if you use rtv make sure you do not block oil feed hole to bearing. just rebuilt a 435 and front bearing was eat up due to rtv blocking oil hole and locked up due to rusting/water damage inside. cleaned right up and easy to rebuild, and well worth the 135$ bearing kit.

So....I finally got back to the shop. The reason I asked the original question, as I learned the old gasket was covering the hole in the trans. Now I have a new issue. The bolt holes on the bearing retainer don't line up with the threaded holes in the trans. I line up the hole in the trans, with the drain tube on the retainer cover, slide the cover in place and the four holes on the cover don't match the trans housing. Thanks for the replies.
