Towing 24ft enclosed with a 2015 Dodge 1500? - 06/12/20 07:01 PM

I have an Older 2003 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins and its got a lot of mileage and its starting to really rust.....Nothing in my $25k price range except 2500's with more mileage than mine and almost the same year or a nice 1500.....Really wanted a Mega cab.....

Any issue towing with one of the newer Ram 1500's? Can I get air bags for the rear?

What is your trailer weight with payload? What is the tongue weight? Yes, airbags are available and work well in the 1500s. I have them in mine.

Fully loaded, over 9k, proabaly close to 10k, with a bunch of tongue weight. I had to add bags to my 2500...

That's right at the limits of a 1500 and probably beyond depend on how the truck is optioned.

I added trailer towing rear coils plus air bags on my 2014 1500 and it towed a 24 foot enclosed trailer carrying a 72 340 Road Runner with no problems at all.

iagree Next question is how many miles per year you tow. A couple trips a year wouldn't be bad but i think you would be dissatisfied towing weekly any distance. twocents

Check local laws, I know here in Ontario a 1500 can't tow hardly anything legally, any tandem trailer is pushing the limits empty.

Randy
You know when you sit and there is that feeling on your right buttocks like your sitting on something. Well that's called your wallet...get off of it and go buy the truck you need!

FWIW, some rental yards around here won't rent an open car trailer to anything less than a 2500.

Comes down to just because you can.
Doesn't mean you should.

IMO an open trailer on a semi regular basis you would be ok.

Enclosed , loaded Not so sure I would except maybe on the rare occasion I HAD to

My 2004 3500 diesel Ram broke towing my 32' LQ trailer that weighs 11K lbs in PA and my buddy came and brought me back with a loaner 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab. It did the trick, I was impressed but wouldn't do it a lot! If your enclosed has 3500 lb axles and your car weighs less than 4K lbs you should be just fine with a 2015 1500. twocents
