Open element air cleaner on '00 Durango 5.9... - 06/19/19 04:06 PM
Been wanting to try an open element air cleaner on the Durango. I picked up a 14" air cleaner for $3 at an estate sale and bought a 14 x 3 filter for a '69 Chevelle 396 at AZ for $6. Installed it and all I can say is WOW! I had heard the factory air filter assy. was very restrictive but I can't believe the difference. I can actually feel it in my butt dyno plus I get an AVS-type wail now at full-throttle. Can't say if it will help fuel mileage since I can't keep my foot out of it.
Maybe after the new wears off I can check to see if there's any improvement. ![boogie boogie](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/boogie.gif)
Oh, and the 14" was a tight fit. Had to trim the hood weatherstrip just a little.
Smaller assy. for a Durango/Dakota (12"?) might be better but probably not a problem on a Ram.
