1980 w150 , /6 - can’t resolve fast idle - 05/18/19 01:49 AM

Been trying to resolve fast / sticking idle issue

ALL SMOG CONTROLS TAKEN OFF BY PAST OWNER
As far as I can tell it’s the original carb

So far I have cleaned the fuel tank
New sending unit
New gas cap
New fuel line front to back
New fuel filter
New carb base gasket (check for leaks with flammable spray)
Cleaned carb twice
All unused vacuum ports capped with NEW caps
Installed distributor properly
Plug wires installed properly
Timing set at 8* btdc at idle
Idle air adjustment done as best I can by ear.

The only issue I can come up with is it seems the plastic accelerator pump body kinda hangs up on its retainer

Any suggestions ? Maybe get older carb pre-smog ?

Thanks !

Choke linkage adjusted correctly. It can keep the fast idle cam up.

The choke linkage isn’t even connected. The actuating Rod is all jacked up and bent so I wouldn’t even know what it’s supposed to look like. Can you tell me how to correct it ?

How's the slop in the throttle shaft? The butterfly can hang up. Get vacuum leaks around the shaft too.

Does that one have the idle kicker solenoid? My kid's 80 does, same truck and same engine in 2wd form.

make sure the weights in dist are not sticky. if the weights agummed up they are slow to return or stay advance which will idle up the engine.

open dist for cleaning and some fresh lube on weight pins.

add a set of the MrGasket mopar mech advance spring kit. use both springs for a fast mech a all in by 1200-1500 rpm

mark the damper to 32*-35* BFTC use timing light and rev engine till it is full advance and hold rpm adjust the mark to the 0* mark on timing tab. now you have total timing set.

let it idle and see where the 0* mark on damper lines up on timing tab. this is the initial timing or base timing.

next hook up the dist vac can to full vac port on carb and try it. vacuum advance may or may not be used as the light spring spins up to full advance at a low rpm

set you curb idle to where you want it

Intake gasket/warped intake? Had this happen on my 86 d100.
