79 to 85 interchangeable question?

79 to 85 interchangeable question? - 01/20/19 12:39 AM

I have a friend who is attempting to restore a really rusty 79 LRE truck and has found a squeaky clean 85 cab...from a sheet metal/feasibility standpoint is this possible? His desire of course would be to use the 79 LRE components in the 85 cab...is this doable? Thanks!

The cab is different It cam be made to work but the roof is more squared off on the newer one.

Thanks, this one really had me stumped, I was always under the impression that 72-79 cabs were unique? Didn't the lines change in 80?

Cabs from 72 -80 have similar body profile but even then there are differences (mostly in the fire wall i.e... heater boxes, Bulkhead) The body changed (rounded vs squared off)in 81 for the single cab but stayed rounded for the duration of Club and Crew cabs.

i put a complete body, cab, front end and bed from a 86 2wd onto a 764x4,as i recall i had to do some kind of mods on the fuel tank, but i cant remember just what, body just bolted right on

1980 was still the old style. I forget what year but the fuel filler also changed from being in the cab to the box. I think maybe 74?

IIRC door striker change so have a look at that if using the 79 doors/fenders/core support on the 85 cab.

I replaced the 85 cab with a 91 cab for the hydro clutch mounting hole in fire wall. ez pz
