I would try it as long as the square face has opposing corner mounting lugs. Some don't. I know you will have to update the wiring/connectors etc from the old 78 dash stuff. I think the radios in ram full size trucks were square faced until 2002 model.

If you are looking for additional donor vehicles, many of the car / minivan radios fit till sometime in the later 1990's.

The wiring was changed in 1984 or 85. It's been a while since I read up on the subject, but I believe the wiring for the speakers was changed. Allpar has some articles on this subject.

Some newer speakers would probably improve the sound quality. Speakers can make a significant difference!

Back when I helped a friend build competition stereo systems, we always used the chrysler style wiring harness/plugs. It's petty easy to find the wiring diagram online. I'd just run new speaker wire, but you could use the existing wiring also. You'll have a constant power, remote power/switched, ground then the 4 speaker wires... they are same color per speaker with a tracer. Really not much different than installing an aftermarket head unit.

Not just trucks and minivans, just about all Chrysler vehicles from the 90s used the same radio. Just make sure it's the square kind and that the mounting tabs are in the right spots.

The wiring isn't plug and play. The wiring diagram is usually on the radio itself. If the one you have doesn't have it goto crutchfield's website and look it up there.
