Camper Shell for 1986 D150 - 04/21/18 03:11 PM

Looking at potentially purchasing a 1986 D150 with an 8' bed or long bed. Couldn't find a lot of information but, just curious if I could get a locking camper shell for this truck? I'm wondering if a Dakota or 94+ Ram application would work? Thank you in advance.

I don't know if anyone makes new shells for something that old. We had an '84 back in the '90's with a fiberglass shell on it. I think the original owner had put it on when the truck was new. I decided to take it off one day (by myself) to clean the back of the cab and it was a LOT heavier than I expected it to be!

IF you can't find new, might watch junkyards and craigslist. On craigslist, you may have to buy the whole truck, but if the truck itself is pretty crapped out, you should be able to get it cheap enough. Pull the shell, a few parts, scrap/sell the rest, you might break even or even come out a little ahead.

Fwiw I found this "Stockland" I believe, that seems to fit these trucks very well. It's been on all my longbed trucks. I imagine it would fit the 80's trucks as well. I got it off a friends nephews 68 d200, which they got it off a 70's dodge back in the 80's or 90's. So they are out there. Check the local junkyards as well. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell a fiberglass (read: non metal) item...

I was told a long time ago that either a Chevy or Ford camper shell will fit on the 72-93 trucks. (Not sure how well it fits!) I've never investigated this possibility, so look into it before buying!! Hopefully this might open up more possible options.
