If someone can chime in with a part number that will help the search. I see NOS ones pop up sometimes.

Manual steering I believe is 3492213.

I did see some stuff that made me think it could be engine specific. Can’t remember what right off.

Why doesn't someone make them. I checked LMC truck and I see they have idler, and pretty much everything but pitman.

It will be a big help if we can just get part number.

After some calling around I ended up with Rare Parts.

They couldn’t find a part number and said I’d need to send one for copying. I asked and several people today including rare parts said only one steering box is listed and there isn’t a reason to believe it’s engine application specific.

So two problems remain, one I need a pitman to send. Two, I need to be willing to part with “at least” 300 bucks. Possibly more once they give it a go.

I’m only guessing mine is worn out. The box pours and I thought I’d just knock this out while doing the repair so things will be golden.

I’d go a hundred for sure if we can get a group going. We all should need one down the line and this project helps us all out. The steering box is for 77-79, so it’s safe to say this is only a three year part, maybe somebody can sort out if it covers more or not.

If this includes 4WD I will go $100 but it has to be guaranteed to cover 4WD too.

PITMAN ARM?

what wears out on a solid piece of steel? the conical hole for the draglink tapered end? splines on the sector shaft hole?

2x idler arm/center link/tie rods/BJ wear out

4x4 the drag link/tie rods/BJ wear out...the steer arm & pitman arm are solid steel

only time I have saw a difference was 2x or 4x4 and power or manual steer

not counting the pitman arm/steer arm for 4x4 lift kits.

you can check with them for replacements or lift arms if in need. skyjacker/rough country/JC Whitney

I converted a couple dodge drag links over to chebby adjustable draglinks and used chebby lift steer arms/springs/8 lug hubs/knuckles/spindles for lifting 4x4s running 40s or bigger tires.

That’s great news. I assumed they had a wear part like the cars have and might as well knock out now. Not one person thought it was odd to ask. Thanks.

On the big GMs it was the drag link and idler arm that were replaceable so guessing that's why you can't find pitman arm? I would have thought anyway that if it was a part that needed to be replaced it wouldn't be this hard to find. But I've never had to replace one.

I've seen a few Pitman arms wore out from the drag link not being tightened properly.

My 74-77 DT Parts manual shows a illustration of steering components for D100-200-300 with the following notation.

Parts Indicated by name only - order by description

The pitman arm does reference 19-27-2

I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this info, it's only what I read in the manual.

Note initially I thought you might have a hard time finding this but they are on eBay aplenty and may have been used thru 1993, you may be able to buy one from Ma?

Seems strange if it does indeed stop at '77 and not thru at least '80

I guess W150 would be different due to lift?

Mopar made almost yearly changes to truck steering in the late 70's. Most notably the mounting of the box for 4wd. Also steering column changes mainly the coupler.

That said pitman arm are non wear items. Differences are manual v power, 2v4 wd, early or late 4wd.

Having not dabbled much with 2wd trucks I wouldn't rule out a steering redesign in the late 70's that would require a different arm.

All in all though it shouldn't be hard to find a good used or nos part once you nail down a part number.

Actually my books cover 74-77, 78-81 and 82-83

They all list the same steering arms for 2WD.

I think for 2WD they used the same arm through 1993 but I do not have the later books just some random compatibility charts on the net.

A lot can happen the a steering arm over the years. Beaten to death during a steering box swap etc.
