She's TOPLESS Now....truck was originally a soft top truck, and since this thing hopefully will never see rain again the soft top will do just fine.
It's going to get a full 10 point cage any way.

Re: Ramcharger - 04/08/18 12:18 PM

Mock motor is in. The Mounts in these photos' are the V6 mounts from 88-93,
I've used Bouchillon's G3 mounts on 3 other swaps, but I'm not a fan of those mounts. http://bouchillonperformance.com/inc/sdetail/669/742
Drivers side should work out with just adding a plate, the Passenger side will need more work to get it in there right with out interfering with the oil filter boss.

Very cool project. I like it! The G3’s look strangely at home in the older Dodge trucks, to me...

Irony is your Main caps came from this block

These G3s fit like a glove in these trucks.

With Bouchillon's brackets it helps, with the V6 P-side bracket the "box" part hits the casting on the block. so I have to make the "box" section narrower.....I still might use the 4x4 adaptor ,
I appreciate the input

Cant you just drill holes more rearward on the crossmember and move the pads back to clear the filter?

That is pretty cool. You will still probably beat me to completion on our projects. Mine seems to be taking forever...

Yes you could, I wanted to see if it could be done with the V6 Brackets. I also think it's easier for others to follow if they don't have to cut and weld frame items, cut and modify a bracket yes.

The other issue, I feel with moving the frame mount(plate that's welded to the Cross member) back is header clearance.

Re: Ramcharger - 04/10/18 01:23 PM

Worked on the Passenger side engine Bracket last night, Cut and clearanced the bracket to fit around the Oil Filter boss on the block.
Still not enough room to attach a filter because of the distance between the cross member and oil filter, if I lifted the engine up about an inch, it would have enough room to spin on and off the filter, but that will effect driveline angles.

Re: Ramcharger - 04/10/18 01:26 PM

Now I just have to add some plate to the brackets to reach the other mounting points on the block.
The 4x4 Oil Filter relocation adaptor will still need to be used.

Re: Ramcharger - 04/14/18 06:23 PM

Well the 6.1/6.4 SRT Manifolds won't work with out some Work,
The Passenger side will fit with some simple frame rail notching, Drivers side needs the same, plus some modification to the engine bracket and the relocation of the brake proportional calve I'm not against it, but for now I'm going to order some LX body headers and see if they fit, I'd rather cut up $200 headers than notch the rails.

Re: Ramcharger - 05/18/18 01:34 PM

have the headers worked out now, the LX body headers will work with some mods, have to cut the port flange off and remove about a 1/2 inch and move the pipes in towards the head. Flanges are ordered and I'll get some photos up by next week.
Ordered Dropped spindles and van Lower control arms last week, also got brackets to convert the front calipers over to GM 52 style.

Re: Ramcharger - 05/18/18 04:19 PM

Nice to know the lx headers will work with some mods. I'm getting a '90 D150 CC shortbox that I want to swap to a 5.7 and I was wondering what I would do for headers. What are GM 52 style brakes and why are you converting to them? Aren't the brakes on this gen of Rams pretty decent?

Re: Ramcharger - 05/18/18 04:46 PM

Dual Piston vs single. The stock brakes are great but it's more of an update thing

Re: Ramcharger - 05/31/18 01:41 PM

sold the 374 last night, Gave up trying to sell the 4 in bore 5.7 Pistons, sooooooooooooooo I'm going to use them and build a 410.
These are a real deep dish, but With the Eagle heads should bring compression up in to the mid 9s, good enough for this "street" project

Started on the Drivers side Header, some major rework to get these to fit.

Worked on the Driver's side headers the other night, had to hack the LX headers apart , got the last 2 tubes done, this weekend I'll work on the front two and the collector.

Be interesting to find out how much room you have.
I have a 436 cid W9 that I will be doing the same.
Keep the photos coming.

arrrrgh….. KISS... should have stayed w/a big block and 4bbl.
helping my son with a motor swap in his 89 RC, going from the biggest turd of a 360 I have ever experienced, (TBI motor) to a 76 360 with a mild cam a 4 bbl CARB and EQ heads..... same trans same mounts, more power, dead simple dependable carb. no computer needed. or wanted.

Tired of Big Blocks myself , this Ramcharger started out as a D code 440 4x2 , for me it's just about being different

Re: Ramcharger - 07/29/18 05:21 PM

The popular swap for RCs is recent years has been a Cummins. Have seen a few variations on the theme but most seem to keep the trans, xfer, axles from the donor pick up. Have even seen 2000ish dash swapped in to 70s bodies.

I did consider scooping up this roller as a cheap place to put one of my spare 440s but had a life change event. I kinda like the G3 Hemi idea and may have accidentally nudged him in that direction. We got in to a tangent discussion about the hack job LS install in a pop top that was on craigs.

I'm kinda surprised how much fab is going in to making it fit and wondering if truck exhaust wouldn't have bolted in. If I know anything about this guy, I know this: he's having more fun doing this than just bolting in another RB and when it's running it will melt the tires.

I'm diggin' it. Any progress???

Re: Ramcharger - 08/04/18 05:51 PM

yes and no,
the Driver's side header is done, the passenger side is hanging on the wall waiting for me to get back to it, the rear is Narrowed and waiting for me to decide if I'm going 4 link or Nascar truck arm. Trans X member for the TKO 600 is done. rest is waiting on the body guy to tell me when he can take the tub and work on it.

I know the 03-08 and 09-current truck exhaust manifolds will work, there are some exit issues but nothing that can't be dealt with ….but I want headers.
I didn't try the 03-08s Truck headers because of the port shape. I can't see me putting any engine in this Ramcharger that would use the square port heads.
I didn't want to try the 09 and latter headers in-till I knew if I could make the LX headers work...….learn from my mistake boys and girls.. don't go this route too much of a pain in the a$$...by the time it's all said and done I would of been better off making a custom set of headers.
I will try a set of the 09 and later headers some time in the next 2 weeks.I need a set for my 2014 so I have to buy them anyway.

Rick you were about 1/4 the nudge, the other 1/4 was the LS Ramchager and the last 1/2 was the guy who watched too many Fast and loud episodes and try to buy the Ramcharger for $300...because
" you know it's a Dodge no one pays for a Dodge , I'm doing you a favor, look at the garage space you'll have after you sell me this worthless Pile of crap, mater of fact , how about you give me $100 and I won't charge you to load that chunk of Dodge on my trailer"

Yes that was the conversation.

WOW.
LOL
I usually end that conversation with " I wouldn't sell you a pencil.

You can give me $100 and walk out of here or you can limp out for free.

Just a thought.
