Got it back, 86 1 ton rust free - 03/22/18 02:42 AM

Well, I got it back from my son. He's done with it. 86 D350, 360, 4 speed. Rear end is destroyed. Has a huge hole in the bottom of the case. Not sure what I want to do with it. Thought of making it a 1/2 ton shortbed. I have all of the parts needed. Was evening thinking about parting it out. What do you think?

Wow! Please post a pic of the damage. I've never seen a 70 grenade.

Be a shame to part it.

He was running 70 mph or so, the pinion broke in half and blew the bearing out the bottom. I think he ran it out of gear oil. He told me a few weeks ago that the pinion seal was leaking. Oops. I'll get some pictures of it soon.
I'm really leaning towards the 1/2 ton shortbed thing. The frame is the taller version but it would be nice. I have a 4 speed 833 od that I could use in it.

well I got dibs on

1) the front spindle steer arms and bolts/with the sway bar.

2) complete wire harness steering colum

3) front fender set

if you part it out that is.

seems like less work to replace the rear axle and keep on trucking hauling that sweet trailer you been workin.

I bought a 12 Ram 2500 for the comforts, Just bought a new 20 ft equipment trailer also. Getting tired of working on stuff. I'm really thinking of setting this cab on the short bed frame I have and then I'd have 2 short beds. Or just chop this frame down. I have a 440 that's just itching to be in a lowered short bed. I have a buddy of mine that wants the whole truck. I have found a rear end for 500.00. Going to take it out to my shop this weekend and think on it for a while. Got to get out there and do some cleaning up so I can get the 1 ton inside.

500, that sounds like 300 too much. I'd swap a rear. Hell, I have a rear.

It would make a cool ramp truck or other car hauler of some sort.

Maybe I'll stretch it out and put a car hauler bed on it!

Find a longbed stepside to put on it. Would still look cool and can tow. drive

440 auto ramp truck or 440 4 speed short bed sounds good to me.
