Does anyone have the size of the nut that holds the clutch fan on to the water pump? any tricks for getting it off?

It threads off in a counterclockwise direction.
Get the longest chisel or heavy standard screwdriver you can find and while the belt is still on, set up the chisel on the left edge of the nut and use a heavy hammer to give it a sharp smack. It sould break loose pretty easy and spin right of by hand the rest of the way.

I just use a big set of channel locks. Grab the nut tight, smack the end of the handles. The ones I've loosened were not that tight. Gene

FYI not all the Cummins are LHT. Believe they changed that with the common rail in 03 (IIRC)... beware smile

I have a long piece for my air chisel that knocks them right off.

It is officially a 36 mm.

I have shimmed english wrenches with a flattened out piece of lead plumbing solder to get a tight fit, and also with aluminum can metal.

As said above a quick whack with a 2 lb hammer usually is all it takes to loosen it.

Having the right tool is nice but as Stumpy said this works as I did it a few times myself. I had an old big screwdriver blade that was about 2 to 3 ft long and the handle broke off years earlier so I used it like a chisel and it worked great for this. Like was said make sure you get it near the edge so it hits its force in the right direction and usually one good hit with a nice size hammer did it for me. Ron

The "put a wrench on it and whack it with a hammer" (in the correct direction!) has usually worked for me. Except with a Durango. For some reason locktite was applied to to the threads. After all else failed I fabricated a holding tool with pins. That did it. No locktight on re-install. Kinda like the factory tool?
