2009 up Ram 1500 5.7 exhaust manifold issues - 11/15/17 12:48 AM

Just wondering if anyone has experience with the "breaking" exhaust manifold studs, allowing the manifold to warp and leak. Apparently Mopar had a TSB about changing the studs with a different type material stud . . .however, if the manifold isn't planed flat, then the whole issue will happen again . . .

It is diagnosed as a "ticking" noise when cold, but as the head and manifold heat up, they "seal" up the leak . . . but with enough time and heat/cool cycles, the manifold can warp . . . no recall was ever issued, apparently it is on virtually all 09 and up truckes (happens around the 35-40k mile mark) . . .

That's why I went to shorty headers on both my 5.7 Hemis. Happens on the earlier models also.

We do a lot of them at the shop, not aware of a change in the studs though. Been get them from Dorman they have a manifold kit and a lot cheaper. BTW try getting a ice pick and tap the broken stud around. 50% of the time they are not seized in the hole. Also remove the inter fender liners for access.
