Dodge 2004 5.7 engine in a 2006 ram - 10/11/17 01:32 PM

I'm replacing my 2006 dodge 5.7 hemi mds engine with a 2004 non mds motor. Can I bypass the mds? Or just plug in the mds caps making the computer think it's a mds motor still?

not sure.... but you do have to be careful doing swaps. Fiat, Diamler, whoever was flavor of the week liked to changed crank tone wheels and cam which can cause a lot of headaches on swaps.

You will have a check engine light for an open circut if you leave em un-plugged. If you put the solenoids in and plug em in you will find them trying to shut off the 4 cylinders and get severe misfires when it tries to dis engage those 4 cylinders by cutting fuel and spark.

There is no difference in tone wheels in those two years.

Make sure you know what you are getting into with EGR, if they both have it or both dont have it your fine. If the donor has it but the truck didn't just leave it unplugged. If your truck had it but the donor motor don't you will need to drill the holes in the head for the passage and bolt holes or switch the RT side head. If you don't you will get a check engine light for that.
