Jeep 4.0 Header

Jeep 4.0 Header - 10/01/17 03:30 PM

I heated up and welded the cracks in my 4.0 header when I put the stroker in 14 years ago. It cracked again awhile back and it is starting to leak enough that it annoys me, I also want to put a quieter muffler on it that will make it that much worse.

I haven't looked at the 4.0 market in at least 5-8 years, does anyone have any expierience with a good cost effective header? Looking for build quality more than performance, I can't see any of them making much difference over the stock one power wise. This is four a 97 4.0 XJ

I think I will upgrade to the later model intake while I have all that crap off. My poor little XJ needs some restoration so I will probably show it some love this winter.

PERFORMANCE WIZE NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE.THE DOWNTUBE IS WHERE RESTRICTION IS. I BOUGHT A HEADER OFF EBAY THAT HAD LITTLE RIBS,I GUESS FOR EXPANSION.JEEP DID A ARTICLE ON THE LATER INTAKE AND DIDNT GAIN ANYTHING SORRY FOR THE CAPS I AM NOT SHOUTING LOL

Yeah I had heard that about the intake, I think I have one in my shed if I don't I probably will just keep the old one. I thought it might help since its a larger than stock engine but who knows, it runs plenty good as is.

I would find another stock manifold. The stock ones were actually fairly good.

I considered one on my old cherokee.Sold it before I dumped too much money into it.
For no more than they cost one of the Chinese ebay headers is worth a shot.A dynomax super turbo would be quiet enough or just a stock muffler.

For several years almost all of my friends had XJ cherokees, and everyone one of them had an exhaust leak from a crack in the stock header. The exception being one that was an 01 so it had a cast manifold. My welded stock one lasted far longer than I thought it would.

A super turbo is what I thought about putting on actually. I would like some exhaust note but not near as much as I have now.

It doesn't have a catalytic converter on it right now and has a 2.5" pipe with a 40 series FlowMaster...........it's way to loud as I get older lol. I also thought about putting a glass pack inline in front of the flow master, might keep the sound but quite it down some.

I have a stroker, put in the $89 replacement header that has a bellows, no more cracks...after 10 years and 100K in the wife's heap and 11 years and 20K in my stroker heap...Installed the pacesetter cat back system, used the stock 98 and newer down pipe and rodded out the cat converter...

Thanks, that looks like the perfect one for what I am doing. So the 98 and newer downpipes doesn't have the dent for the driveshaft does? I think that is when they went low pinion with the D30.
