92 D150 upgrades - 04/27/17 09:37 PM

I am getting a 92 D150 with 230,000 miles on the clock. New motor and transmission (4bt diesel and 47RH automatic), but rest of the truck is old. I am going to be redoing all of the wear items on the truck. Are there any common upgrades or aftermarket parts that would be good to swap in instead of just parts store new items. Truck will be a daily driver, occasional project car trailer puller.

On a 92 2wd do you need to do the steering box reinforcement?

Not that I know of. Wife's '93 Ramcharger is at 349,000 miles without troubles. Aftermarket support for this body was slim to none when they were new. Worse now, some OEM parts are made of unobtainium.

Sounds like a really cool truck. The steering box reinforcement was for the 4WD vehicles I believe. My 92 6BT 2WD has nearly 250k on it and the frame is fine. I sent you a PM.

I would suggest adding the box brace if it does not have it.

there is a lot of flex at box area on 2x or 4x4 chassis.

I added a swaybar and brace on both my SB & BB trucks.

a borg steering shaft is another good upgrade over the stock pot coupler.

This truck has the factory sway bar, one reason I decided to use it over my 73. The steering shaft is a good idea, I have heard people like those a lot.

I will look into the frame reinforcement kit for the front, it might make the steering that much better. My commute has some 80mph highway time so any increase in stability will be good.

Also, do they make different ratio steering boxes for these trucks or is one any better than another, mine is leaking pretty good and got water in the fittings so I was going to put a new one in while I was redoing it.
