Ford injector questions - 02/05/17 02:58 AM

I have a 99 Dakota with a 5.9 that's due for injectors. Should I run the Ford yellow, brown, blue, or green ones? They are 19# 24# 36# 42# respectively.

I'd run the Chrysler corporate "red" injectors personally.

That said, I like the 4 hole injectors too. By 99, they were getting 49 psi, but rated injectors at a different pressure than Ford I think (like 3 bar for Ford).

I have a stock 2001 5.9 in my 88 truck running 93 electronics with red injectors and 50 psi and that thing is an absolute monster. Spinning tires in 3rd gear with np435 and 3.23s. I am dead convinced the 7/32 fuel line Chrysler used is holding these engines back. I did my best to go 3/8 or -6 AN. Worked on my 88 but too much for my stock 92 5.2 on cold starts at idle with yellow injectors at 49 psi

Ford yellows will be too small and are rated at 19 lbs/hr. Perfect for 5.2 but OEM 5.9 injectors were either 23.5 or 24 under a variety of fuel pressures. Its not straight forward at all- use a ebay as a guide to see what they are selling as replacements and then find a reputable seller, not a chinese rip off artist

Better be sure about the connector also- EV1 and EV6 are what you are dealing with.

For a bone stock truck the blue injectors will be your closest to stock replacement. But I would only run them if they are the same or cheaper than actual stock replacement injectors.

2000 up 5.9 or v6. Not sure about 5.2- My 2000 5.2 came with black injectors with a blue band. My 2001 5.9 had the red injectors. The late V6 magnums at the junkyard also have the red injectors.

My truck is a 99 R/T with an M-1 2bbl, long tube headers, 1.6 HS rockers. MP PCM, underdrive pulley. The injectors are original, and with 95k on the clock I figure a fresh set would be the ticket.

Red injectors are EV6 while the 99 injectors are EV1. Gonna need wire harness change or adapters.

I dont know if the impedance difference would screw with the OBD 2 computer but the OBD 1 setup doesn't care

I want to hijack too.

1992 5.2 whats a good upgrade injector for a stock engine, with headers, and performance computer?

I searched s few forums, and see mention of a Mustang injector. But I have to admit I know little to nothing about MPFI.

Stumpy, I dont know about Hemis at all

HP383, the yellow Ford 19 lb/hr pencil injectors with EV1 connectors are what other people recommend and what has worked for me. They are 4 hole compared to 1 hole and lighter compared to the steel cased injectors

hijack also I have the same exact question as hp383 How much of a performance advantage is there? Currently running 15.0 E.T.s looking for 14s, I have the same combo 5.2 with computer and headers, and are they a direct bolt in with no wiring or plumbing changes? I found part numbers online , Ford: F1ZE-C2A and Bosch: 0280150943 after installation will the computer adjust for the better flow? Thanks! Great topic!

Apparently they are plug and play hp383.

Jerseybud if the pencil version is good for the 5.2, then do you think the white #24 would have any advantage over the blue?

btw
Do you think the green #42 would be an improvement over the Mopar reds?

Re: Ford injector questions - 02/13/17 01:01 AM

Upping the flow rates past 19 for the 5.2 and 24-26 for the 5.9 will not gain power. Example:

My 1992 w250 5.2- Had rust in the fuel rails clogging the injectors every 3k miles. Can only get returnless style fuel rail from ma Mopar now so I switched fuel pump assemblys to use a 94 5.9 pump with a 2001 regulator and the black/blue 23 lb/hr 96-up injectors- BAD IDEA. Engine had flooded plugs at idle. Switched to the yellow 19 lb/hr injectors and much better but still chuggy at idle. I will have to go back to the 39 psi regulator. Getting 12.9 mpg in town. Pics here:
http://ramchargercentral.com/mopar-trucks/1999-w250-project/100/

On the flip side, in my 88 I am running a 2001 5.9 with red injectors at 50 psi and 1993 OEM electricals -is a beast- perfect throttle response, good top end all the way to the rev limiter despite the EGR style intake. And 14 mgp in town!

I think the maximum on a 5.9 is the 93-95 26 lb/hr injectors. But that was at 39 psi. You would need a turbo or supercharger to justify the 42 lb/hr and definitely a aftermarket fuel injection system like a MOtec

Again, I am convinced that tiny fuel line held these engines back when new. Look at a returnelss style fuel pressure regulator sometyime and see how small the hose is. I parted a 97 2500 last fall and the line was stainless steel, but looked like 1/4 inch from tank to the flexible part

Somehwere on the internet is a summary of Chrysler magnum injectors- its half right. THe injector years and generlaizations are wrong, but the flow rate math is right.

Thanx jerseybud I was looking for another bolt on to try and get more power out of my 5.2 it runs good but as usual Im looking for more. It looks like the injector change isn`t worth it.
