Beam axles?

Did Dodge start putting the beam/straight axles under 2 wheel drive trucks again? If so, when did they start?

Someone told me they did, but I haven't been under much of anything newer then a 2000 truck, so I'm asking. Gene

Nope, no straight axles on the front of 2wd's since '71 (ASSuming that's what you're referring to)

How big of a truck are we talking about? Some of the 1 tons and larger have a tube type front on coils. I know i saw cab and chassis 3500's around 97 with tube front axles. I believe the 4500-5500's around 2008 and up do too.

Agree with 3500's and up lately. See them out there.

3500 Chassis cabs (heavier gvwr) have been straight axle since 94 body style. The pickup 3500s stayed with IFS. It's still this way.

So the 3500 and bigger cab & chassis frames (not pickups) from 94 and up have a tube axle with coil springs. I learned something today! Thanks guys, that is the info I was looking for. Gene

Speaking for the older trucks at least, they have never had straight axles. They are dropped axles. A straight axle is straight and does not have a drop in the section between the springs.
