I can say that the steering column wiring is different from 1975 to a 1978 model. I'm swapping from a 4 speed to a 727 in my 75 Power wagon. I swapped in a steering column from a 78 and had to use my original 1975 ignition switch wiring.

It looks to me like 1978 was the start of different direction they were going with truck line so Im thinking wiring , connectors etc changed in 78 and carried on thru 19?? if anyone has any info please post!! Thanks

The "highly acclaimed (?)" Haynes Full sized Dodge pickup 74 thru 93 repair manual lists 5 sets of wiring harness for Dodge trucks.
1) 78 and older
2) 79 & 80
3) 81-84
4) 85-88
5) 89-93
I didn't look at the differences, and the quality of the Haynes book is sometimes questionable, but they made the effort to list 5 different wiring harnesses, so one would expect it is somewhat reality based. Gene

Every 77-78 I've had were the same as long as they were for the same engine. That's the only difference I've run into.
