Lost Interest...Free truck?

Lost Interest...Free truck? - 06/23/16 03:34 AM

It's tough to even write this, but I've admitted to myself that I need to let my '78 D300 440 standard cab, 2wd truck go. I bought the truck 9 years ago to fix up and use to pull my car trailers. I love the look of the '72-'80 trucks and I love older standard cab duallies. Back when trucks were ment for work and worked they were. I bought this '78 out of Indiana and had it trucked to PA. The cab was shot, as were many of the body panels. The bed panels, rusted in a few spots, but really not terrible. I found a donor truck with a great cab and all the other body parts needed including the dual headlight radiator support and grille. The cab floor was meticulously cleaned and painted with SilverBullet paint, the front half of the frame cleaned and ready for paint. That's roughly when life took over, money flowed, and a suitable truck was needed sooner than later. The truck has been sitting, taking up valuable garage space, and life continues to fly by. In a honest moment last week, I've realized that I'm 20 years away from finishing the truck. I have numerous other project vehicles and honestly, I'm more interested in them or they have a greatly amount of sentimental value to me. It's time to move, find a new owner, and move something else into that garage bay.

Now that story time is over, comes my offer. I still love the truck and I'd still love to see it completed. I'm literally willing to give the truck away, the great cab, the 440, everything, to someone that will put the truck together. Short of paint, I honestly think I have everything needed to finish the truck other than carpet. Make no mistake, it's apart, it's a project, but if someone can prove their interest, I will give you the truck. Soooo, any interest?

There should be plenty of people here who'd like to accept that offer. My D truck days are thru as well, but I sure liked them!

This is a great approach! I wish you luck in choosing the worthy candidates!

I've looked for a long time for a 440 dually, they were always too expensive for me to buy. I'd really enjoy building the truck. If you decide you want me to have it, just let me know. Thanks

IMHO, I would feel good if KWG got the project. he is a good guy here on the board and has help me more than once with donations to my projects.

he just sent me the biggest part of my 3rd truck build project for free. and willing to help me with some fabrication to turn it into a gasser truck.

I like his character and grit. like when everyone flamed him when he narrowed his 8 1/4 rear end at home by removing the tubes from the chunk, cutting and pressing them back in. everyone just said he could not do it that way. even had stock axles narrowed/splined. made his on jack bolt press/tools to get it done.

well he showed them all with pics to prove it. tucked some big azz 14" wide rims 21.50 wide M/T fattys in those fenders IIRC.

I was impressed! that's fatter than my A-body 8 3/4 and 29/15/15 M/Ts on 12" rims on my 88 440 truck.
