91 Cummins intercooler question

Im looking at a 91 Cummins non inintercooler ,truck to use for a engine swap project. Can I add an intercool with out any engine mods or should I find a inner cooled engine for my project ?
Project truck is a 70 D300 ramptruck.

That would be "intercooler"....and the injectors are different, the turbo and tubing for an intercooled engine is different for sure. You don't need an intercooler to make any power if that's what you are thinking...lots of mods out there to make that Cummins go. JMO...

Sorry for the miss spelling Im posting from my phone and i just quit fighting auto correct and the little screen looking for longevit in a hauler/puller. Wasnt sure if the intercooler engin would be better over the non.

The different injectors are more of a uning aid than a r3quirement to run the intercooler.

The intercooler helps keep exhaust temps in check under load, but proper tuning of the non ic engines avoids that too.

The best running Cummins I've ever owned was a non intercooled.

I myself would not have one without the cooler. There is a reason why they added it and all of them have a cooler now. If your putting it in a ramp truck and plan on hauling loads I'd go with the intercooler. Get the core support and the bumper mount extensions and the install will be easier.

But wait until you see the price on one. $$$ Wouldn't bother with a used one either: chances are very good it will have a leak.

the radiator is also different. a non I/c radiator is wider.
