projector head lights - 07/25/15 06:24 PM

i have a 2004 dodge 3500 that the head lights are getting pretty fogged over from the road environment and weather. I know there are polishing kits to bring the clearness back but was wondering about the new look of the projector lights. Do they light up the road better than the stock lights?

Biggest problem with the projector lights is that there is five adjustments to get them pointed right and the adjusters are on the back side. That means you have to keep R&Ring them to get the adjustment right. I just went through this and ended up sending them back and going with stock style replacements. Oh and the projectors come with those ricer LEDs.

Just wet sand you current headlights, then clear coat them with a UV stable clear for plastic. I did that to my Dakota, it took almost 20 minutes total, and the difference is remarkable! Also only cost $7.00.

I HATE factory projector headlights, I can't see the aftermarket ones being even 1/10 as useful (since they're designed for sales, not usefulness).

On the 2004 truck you can use tooth paste a a buffer to clean them up or pretty cheap you can replace them with EBay units. Sanding the newer type will mess them up worse than the clouding. I used a pair of these. Takes about 10 minutes a side to swap. He excepted a $46 ea offer.

I just used 400 because that is all the store had. Really, you should try to go to 1000 (or close), but for me, this was fine. The clear is a Rustoleum product. I posted about it a few weeks ago, I think in the General section.

Thanks Stumpy for the projector light info. I guess thats not what I want after all. When I tow a trailer the lights would be shinning in the trees if adjusted for normal ride. So I guess it's try the sand and buff. Thanks 79 powerwagon for the clear coat tip.
