Though I agree that I want to swap to Three-Point belts with Retractors, at the moment I have too many other problems to sort out. I bought this Truck in (barely) running condition, last November and have been working on it around 8-hours or so per week.
For now I just need to get by with what I have in place. My sense is that the Transmission needs to come out for refurbishment and the clutch, pilot bushing, throwout need to be replaced.
Already replaced both output shaft oil seals in the transfer case and the output shaft oil seal for the transmission, as they all leaked profusely. The output shaft yokes all had wear grooves. Was able to chuck them up in a small lathe and polish out the grooves with crocus cloth.
Haven't visually checked the wheel bearings or brakes yet. Already went through the U-Joints, Driveshafts (both were out of phase) and changed the differential, Xfer case, Trans lubricant and engine oil.
Refurbished the battery tray and cables along with the instrument cluster (fuel Guage, oil pressure and coolant temp were non-functional). The fuel sender was also bad, but I was able to mount a new brass contact arm to the rheostat and replace the leaking fuel line hose connection.
The door window brush seals were missing, so I replaced them. Still need to install the glass run seals. The left door hold-open spring was gone, so I replaced that hinge. The door release was out of adjustment and the adjuster hole was covered over by an ID plate.
The Front and rear bumpers, defroster cowl, W/S Wiper linkage, tailgate and right wing window were all missing when I bought the truck, so I purchased and installed replacement parts The hood catch mount was broken out. The Dome light wiring had an open broken wire inside the insulation. Backup lights didn't work, eventually found the disconnected connector.
No license Plate light, so I bought an aftermarket light and fabricated a bracket. The Instrument Cluster-cowl/padded-dash was missing and a wrong year glovebox cover was mounted, so I bought/installed used, year-correct, replacement parts. The defroster vents were completely shot, bought/replaced those too.
The left front tire was the wrong size (smaller than the other three) and the left rear has a slow leak and the valve stem is bad too.
There was a noisy exhaust leak, turned out to be a blown out exhaust manifold gasket on the right side. Both exhaust manifolds were 318 type mounted on this 360 engine The heat riser just flapped on that right side manifold, so I swapped on a correct 360 manifold replacement.
Amazingly, the engine seems fairly healthy, carb had been rebuilt before I bought it. The worst thing on it so far was the distributor cap and rotor which were a disaster, surprised it ran from the way it looked.
So, along with the clutch/Trans and various other issues, Lots of bodywork and paint still remain to be done as well.
Eventually, I will mount better seat belts, but for now, these will need to suffice.
