'72 -'75 Dodge Pickup, Is there a Shoulder Belt Holder?

On my '74 Dodge W200, there were no Shoulder Belts, as it was first sold as a Utility Bed Truck.

At least the Mounts were there on the B-Pilars, so I added shoulder belts from a '75 Truck in the Junkyard. Problem is, that they hang down and clank against the cab interior when not in use.

Are there supposed to be belt storage holders to clip the belt ends into when not in use? I have belt storage clips mounted above the door windows on my '71 Charger that also has the separate lap and shoulder belt arrangement.

Do the pickups of that era use same, similar, something different or nothing at all?

I recall the shoulder belt being mounted to teh floor, and the B pillar mount is simply the "pulley" which makes it direct towards the seat. I don't have any good pictures...

Nope they just hang there, retractor is supposed to keep them tight

The Seat Belt Systems evolved over the years. Initially, there were only Lap Belts, no retractors, then Lap Belts Only With Retractors, then Seperate Shoulder Belts were added with No Retractors. Sort of cumbersome to have two Seperate Belt Buckle Sets, per person, but that's they way they were initially. My '71 Charger has Two Buckles, Per Person.

Eventually, the Lap and Shoulder Belts were integrated and only one buckle per person was required.

I have the Illustrated-Drawings in the 1974 Dodge Truck Factory Service Manual that shows a simple belt end hanging from the B-Pilar Mount without any retractor involved. I see there is supposed to be a Shoulder Belt "Stowage Clip", supposedly Two Per B-Pilar.

There is also a Floor-Mounted Retractor for the Lap Belt only.

Does anyone have a picture of those Stowage Clips or at least remember seeing them?

Unless its a full on restoration, go with the later belt system that is the more typical standard three point system.

MUCH more comfortable. Nothing worse than riding in a truck, that rides like a truck, with a belt on that has no give.

Though I agree that I want to swap to Three-Point belts with Retractors, at the moment I have too many other problems to sort out. I bought this Truck in (barely) running condition, last November and have been working on it around 8-hours or so per week.

For now I just need to get by with what I have in place. My sense is that the Transmission needs to come out for refurbishment and the clutch, pilot bushing, throwout need to be replaced.

Already replaced both output shaft oil seals in the transfer case and the output shaft oil seal for the transmission, as they all leaked profusely. The output shaft yokes all had wear grooves. Was able to chuck them up in a small lathe and polish out the grooves with crocus cloth.

Haven't visually checked the wheel bearings or brakes yet. Already went through the U-Joints, Driveshafts (both were out of phase) and changed the differential, Xfer case, Trans lubricant and engine oil.

Refurbished the battery tray and cables along with the instrument cluster (fuel Guage, oil pressure and coolant temp were non-functional). The fuel sender was also bad, but I was able to mount a new brass contact arm to the rheostat and replace the leaking fuel line hose connection.

The door window brush seals were missing, so I replaced them. Still need to install the glass run seals. The left door hold-open spring was gone, so I replaced that hinge. The door release was out of adjustment and the adjuster hole was covered over by an ID plate.

The Front and rear bumpers, defroster cowl, W/S Wiper linkage, tailgate and right wing window were all missing when I bought the truck, so I purchased and installed replacement parts The hood catch mount was broken out. The Dome light wiring had an open broken wire inside the insulation. Backup lights didn't work, eventually found the disconnected connector.

No license Plate light, so I bought an aftermarket light and fabricated a bracket. The Instrument Cluster-cowl/padded-dash was missing and a wrong year glovebox cover was mounted, so I bought/installed used, year-correct, replacement parts. The defroster vents were completely shot, bought/replaced those too.

The left front tire was the wrong size (smaller than the other three) and the left rear has a slow leak and the valve stem is bad too.

There was a noisy exhaust leak, turned out to be a blown out exhaust manifold gasket on the right side. Both exhaust manifolds were 318 type mounted on this 360 engine The heat riser just flapped on that right side manifold, so I swapped on a correct 360 manifold replacement.

Amazingly, the engine seems fairly healthy, carb had been rebuilt before I bought it. The worst thing on it so far was the distributor cap and rotor which were a disaster, surprised it ran from the way it looked.

So, along with the clutch/Trans and various other issues, Lots of bodywork and paint still remain to be done as well.

Eventually, I will mount better seat belts, but for now, these will need to suffice.

The photo below is roughly how it looked when I bought it. The previous owner had the seat reupholstered, but aside from that, this was the "before" picture.

Thanks for the link JD. I had already been looking at another website. I bought similar 3-point retractables for my '79 Jeep CJ5 around 16 years ago and they still work great.

Will likely be buying a set in the next several months.

Wally, I thought about that too, hooking up the Pasenger Side shoulder belt to keep it from flopping around. I do something similar with the seat belts in my airplane when not in use.

I got my belts from Snappin turtle. They work well, but I wish there was a lead belt from the shoulder anchor as it cuts into my neck a little. I use pads to help. I have some car seat E-clips that I may try to adjust it with to see if they hold.
