06 2500 head light reflash?

06 2500 head light reflash? - 02/05/15 12:15 PM

I have the dreaded 06 2500 head light issue one light out on low beam only not a wiring or bulb issue, apperantly is a engineering goof with the new for 06 TIMP a 900 dollar part (Thanks Mopar) well anyway Google searches suggest a reflash will solve the issue however its a one time only reflash , after done once supposedly your done and only a new TIMP will do the trick, Anyone have anything to add to this? Going to the dealer this weekend for an estimate and or may be a reflash.........

A co-worker just went through this too on an 08 caliber. Spent 5 or 6 hundred. That sure seems like a silly expense for just 1 headlight out. I'd be a little ticked too.

Could you use a relay(s) to turn the headlights on and use the factory harness for the relay on/off signals?

Not sure electrics not my thing , more research tells me that the computer is reading either a high voltage spike or a low voltage drop on my left low beam only and after a few spikes or drops the computer shuts down that particular circuit, to open up the circuit again a computer scanner is needed to search the codes and clear them to restore the low beam, so I guess I need a good scanner to clear, also this problem on my truck is most likely related to my snow plow wiring probably not too bad but I need that scan tool first, any suggestion on a good one that can read all the codes?

For starters unplug the plow light adapters and hook the headlights up as they left the factory. Then see what it does. What plow do you have?

Done that already and its same low beam out , when hooked up low beam om the truck and on the plow same side are out so falls in line with how the system works, circuit is out due to protection mode as controlled by computer. Plow is a dealer installed unit purchased with the truck in 06. Any scan tool suggestions? I might as well get a good one since I need it I heard the AZ and Reilly types do not retrieve the chassis electric codes

So what brand plow? For a proper scan you will need to see the Dealer. I would not trust a generic scan tool esp when you will need to get into the module.

Its a Meyers E-60 Plow, I 'll probably end up at the dealer but if I can buy the scanner that would be a good thing for this issue and future code readings.

The scanner may tell a code but it wont re-flash the module. You can ask your dealer first about any TSB's that apply as well as any flash upgrades.
The reason I was wondering about what make plow you had was that we install and service Boss plows and there was a Boss TSB that applied to a headlamp adapter harness problem. The harness had a loose fit and it caused problems within the module. Boss had a revised/upgraded harness to alleviate the problem. Here is what Boss said.

connector plugs on two of its headlight adapter kits. The MSC09993 & MSC08839headlight adapter kits will now have hard plastic connector ends that simulate the OEM connectors. These new
connector ends will also have a locking mechanism which maintains a positive connection.
The reason for this change is the TIPM module on the 2006 & Newer Dodge, and the SPDJB on
the 2008 & Newer Ford Super Duty’s, are extremely sensitive to poor connections. If a poor connection is detected, the control module may shut down one or more headlight functions. It is strongly commended that these NEW headlight adapter kits be used on the vehicles stated above.
