Very solid looking.
Good start.
I'll be watching this one.
I want to do something similar in a 76.
It already has a 4 speed, but it's a granny gear set-up.
Where did you get the hump? Come with the trans?
Could you please mention where every thing came from.
Thanx tons.

Are you talking about the black fiber glass piece...from a salvage yard....I have another one if you need one. I forget where I got the bell from...hard to find...there is a sight that still has it listed for sale....but expensive....I paid a little less, but not much.....my Dad ran that trans in a 71 pickup back in the day.

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 01/27/15 07:19 PM

Yeah I meant the fiberglass part.
P.M. me
I wont need pedals but linkage, drive, shaft and the rest.
I would imagine most would be sourced at the pick n pull.
What year trucks should I be looking for?
Hopefully I could get it all from the same truck.
I'm probably gonna use a 360 I have laying around.
I wanted to follow along as the rest will be the similar enough.

The carpet actually had cut outs of a truck four speed and the 4x4 shifter, but not for the car four speed hole....oh well....still cool that it had those two items.

Description: Hello...got it figured out....derrr....lol

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/11/15 08:05 PM

it must be my old age----BB 2 wheel drive is really cool----you know chevy used them in 1/2 ton and blazers for a few years and they are popular with some of the circle track set....

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/12/15 10:04 PM

The Chevy A-833ODs came with Chevy front ends on the transmission, would need an adapter to bolt into a Mopar.

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/13/15 02:39 AM

the guy that told me about them said that some had the chevy bolt pattern and some had the dodge pattern---the bellhousing for the dodge one is pretty rare as chevy guys didnt know what they looking at...

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/13/15 07:01 PM

Wow, never knew that! So bolting an A-833 behind your 350 is possible with factory parts.

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/13/15 09:03 PM

the 833 is a favorite with chevy guys running circle track---remember the 833 hemi is the strongest 4 spd ever and the regular 833 is the second strongest---the budget racers are always looking for them...

----i found the thread on this gm bell housing----it is an 82-84 6.2 dual pattern #14061655----this makes it happen for the 833.....

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/24/15 06:23 AM

and robbins limit your power displays to first and second gear---3rd and 4th are somewhat weak due to being reversed in order on the mainshaft----passon sells a hemi cut gearset for the 833od that is good to 750hp---one of my friends runs one at the dragstrip in a blown stroker 440 with no problems in 5 years---loves it as he can drive on the highway at fairly normal rpms.....

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 08/24/15 08:40 PM

Is that a BB bell housing made for the bigger bearing retainer on the OD trans or did you have to machine the bell housing?

It's a factory dual pattern bell for a truck four speed and the OD833, but you could put any 833 four speed with the correct ring.

I'm really not going to be hot rodding this thing around....ya I wouldn't mind getting that kit.....but to be honest..... I'd rather have his five speed.....and with my change over.... I can go that way when I get rich....lol

I've seen a two wheel drive one out of cheby on the floor at a friends place (back in the 90's) and it had the Mopar bellhousing pattern.

Re: 518 to OD833 behind my BB 86 RC - 09/18/15 04:53 PM

I'm guessing that the two wheel drive RC/TD's had shims between the crossmember & frame is cause of the shorter wheel base than the short bed trucks.....but I'm hoping it's not going to affect the height of the shifter to much.
