5.9 Whiplash Cam users.... - 12/14/14 06:02 PM
Did you use your stock pushrods? I recently threw this stick in my stock 5.9. Torqued the rockers down and they are pretty loose. Could this be a symptom of the lifters not being pumped up (My first roller motor, I don't even know if they pump up) or am I in need of longer push rods? Thank you guys.

I did use stock pushrods, but, stock heads were also shaved .030, and stock gaskets were replaced with fel-pros. between the 2, I took out .050" of required pushrod length.
Now that I have edelbrock heads on the motor, I have adjustable roller rockers
If you're loose, You probably need longer pushrods. stock cam has like, .420 lift? that 5.9 whiplash has .544 lift.
it should fit in a stock 5.9 magnum with only a spring change on the heads.
the 1.6 rocker ratio is what makes it have more lift in the magnum engine.
my pre-mag LA 318 with #302 heads got .485/.487 lift with 1.5 rocker ratio.
stock roller valve gear with comp 901-16 springs.
some of them will feel loose untill you run it and get oil pumping thru them.
mine are all used roller lifters that I have cleaned and inspected. they always take about 20 mins or so of idle run time to get the air pumped out when they are empty.
I spin mine over a good bit with the plugs out before fireing it off getting oil psi showing on the gauge.
I got 3 of the whiplash cams 2 in LA engines and 1 440 flat tappet and orderd up another roller for the w350 4x4 I just brought home.
I love the whiplash cams.

Thank you for the Input guys, going to end up calling Hughes to get their input as well. I plan on spinning that oil pump a good bit before starting for sure....motor is dry as can be. Can't wait to hear this junkyard monster I have created! LOL
JY whiplash engines are us
I just scored a 5.2 magnum engine with 98,000 miles from a 93 DAK for my new to me 82 w350 4x4 flatbed.
