2010 Hemi tune-up question - 09/21/14 05:10 AM

I have 50,xxx miles on my truck. They tell me I should have put new plugs in it at 30k.

Should I just go with the original type or is there something better? I don't mind changing at 50k but 30k doesn't seem like very many miles on a set of plugs.

Al. heads has a lot to do with it. Had mine changed on my R/T at 50k, they had a heck of a time getting them out with no damage.

The 09+ Hemi's require stock plugs. They are made for Dodge by NGK and have a unique taper. Any other plugs will in the long run end up giving you error codes.

I do them in my 09 Challenger R/T every 30k-ish and it is never an issue. No problems getting them out or getting access to them.

Just make sure the plugs are all gapped correctly, as I usually get a few that are too small from shipping.

Go overnight before you change them, it'll be easier.

I have found the "30k" Gen III plugs with moderate use do OK up to 40 or 45k. At 50k, time to change.

Got it done yesterday. I took it to the dealer. The local parts store didn't have a set in stock and I was afraid I might run into something I couldn't resolve.
They let it cool down for 1 1/2 hours. It then took about an hour to get it done. It turned 52k miles on the way home.
Thanks for the replies.
