D100 B van LCA swap what do I need? - 08/21/14 01:16 AM

I'm sure this has been covered countless times in this forum but I'm considering it for my street strip '79 D100. What year range B van do the LCAs need to be from and is it 1/2 or 3/4 ton? I just read about this swap in the unlawful forum so forgive my ignorance. I plan to use moroso trick drag springs with it also. If I need anything else feel free to fill me in. Also does anyone know if someone makes tubluar UCAs for my truck?

I found a great write up on the subject, thanks for the search technique! Still trying to figure out what to do for upper control arms tho. I can't find repo ones. Hoping someone makes tubular ones but I'm not holding my breath.

For specifics on the lowers, here's what we used on our '75 D100 recently:

From RockAuto they were Dorman part nos: 520335 (520-335) and 520336 (520-336) - still available for about $78 each.

As mentioned in other threads you have to: remove the steering arm bump stop, drill for the strut rod, enlarge the bushing bolt hole in the frame, and remove some material around the bushing flange.

I had to do all of the above on our 84 except the removal of material around the bushing flange.

Last I knew, new upper control arms were still available......but not needed for this swap....if that's what your thinking...???

I know the uppers aren't needed for the swap I was just thinking I might replace all the arms at once, because it needs the front end freshened up. My dad has pretty well talked me out of the swap because it drops the front more than we'd like it to. We're worried it will effect the way my truck hooks,it's really consistent the way it is. Now I'm thinking just call PST and get their polygraphite rebuild kit with ball joints and tie rods.
