2008 Ram 1500 Hemi Quad Cab, AC is lame - 06/26/14 02:07 PM

Hello, I have an 08 1500 QC 4x4 Hemi Sport truck. It has about 83,000 miles on it and has been great since I bought it last febuary. One thing I need to look into though is that the AC is pretty weak. It eventually gets really cold but only after 20-30 minutes of driving which is longer than normal for me.

Last week on my way home i noticed that the air from the passenger side vents is pretty cold, the drivers side two vents are not near as cold. I moved all the selections around a few times and thats the way it stayed.

What could be causing the differential in temps between the two sides? The truck does not have the dual zone climate control just the typical three knob climate control panel. The heater, defrost, etc all work just fine.

Thanks for any input!

These were good about breaking the fresh air/recirculate door. I've also seen the blend doors broken and even one that had an evaporator leaking causing that same condition you have, odd but true.

with Guitar Jones. You could ahvve a broken door or bad actuator. Id first check to see if the recirc door is broken. All you have to do is drop the glove box door all the way down so you can see the HVAC housing. Look to the right side of the HVAC box and you will see a open grille with a door mounted in it. The door should open and close from max a/c to regular a/c. If there is no door moving behind the grille, it has broken off. It will then fall down and block off air flow to the fan motor and cause low air output out of the vents.

The airflow is great, and you can hear the recirc door change the airflow when you switch the selector around. All of the functions of the HVAC work fine. Its just when on the AC it blows equal air out both sides, but the passenger side vents are noticably cooler.

It was mentioned on here and I got several on another board agreeing that it was likely low on freon. I'll have it checked out this week. Thanks for the responses.

I have the same problem on my 2007 Ram. It really is annoying that the passenger side gets colder since I drive alone 90% of the time.

I'll bet you it's a broken door.

The thought crossed my mind but 100% of the functions work properly other than where it blows cold air. It moves great volume but the passenger side is colder than the drivers.

Exact the same symptoms I am having.

This issue is most times caused by freon being low. I have had a few with bad evaporators that have caused this also but most times it is low freon.

It's possible that the blend door has broken off and is partially blocking the duct that leads to the center registers.

Well I got a chance to add Freon tonight. That fixed the problem, ice cold both sides.
