1994 Ram 2500 brake lines - 05/21/14 02:25 PM

I just picked up a 1994 Ram 2500. Both the brakes line coming out of the master cylinder need replaced due to rust (1 line is leaking).

What size lines do I need to get for this? I am looking to get straight lines with the fittings already on them and bend them myself.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks Guitar.

Will the 3/16 lines have the correct size fittings?

That may depend. Typically the master cylinder fittings are not the standard size you get on a piece of line. In that case you will need to cut the old lines to get the fittings off and then cut the new line, slide the new fittings off and the old fittings on then double flare the ends of the new lines. Double flaring tools aren't too expensive and you can practice on some old lines to get the hang of it but it's really easy to do.

94 should still be double flare.I cant remember when they went to the bubble flares.Adapters are avaliable to go to standard lines though.Rocky

My 96 was double flare, but either way it's just a tool and a little practice.

Go to your auto parts store and buy some 90/10 copper/nickel brake line. It's certified for brakeline use, doesn't corrode, and is much easier to flare.

It's what comes on every Volvo now.

The copper line is interesting. I had a buddy give new steel for free last night.

Is there anything out of the ordinary to bleed the brakes on this truck? There are, what I am guessing, a couple of ABS moudules plumbed near the MC.

There shouldn't be. Just follow the normal procedure, bleed master first, then start at the right rear, left rear, right front then left front.

The parts store will have an adapter to join the sae 3/16 line and 1/4 in fittings to the master cylinder. No flairing necessary.

Most likely all, or most all of the lines are bad and should be replaced. A propane torch and vice grips are your friends.
