Jeep Cj V-8 Swap???? - 04/21/14 03:19 PM

I have an 81 Power Ram 150 That is a total rust bucket but has a good drivetrain.(360, 4 speed, 4x4) How difficult would it be to swap that drivetrain into a early 80's Jeep CJ7 that was an original straight six Jeep. Any experts here??? Thanks for the help...

There will be a good amount of cutting and welding involved, and fabricate a new exhaust system. It won't be a bolt-in proposition, by any means, but totally do-able if you know how to weld and are mechanically inclined.

Late to this one, but it is not a difficult swap.

The exhaust is cake with center dump manifolds, and truck headers can be used with a little massaging to the firewall on the passenger side on some brands of headers. Use two passenger side Jeep CJ frame mounts for the motormounts, and then standard sandwich type isolators on the engine. No welding required.

Your tans/tranfer case fitment will be where you will have the most head scratching; I used the 999 guts and tailshaft housing from the Jeep and a small block 904 case to mount up my D300 when I built my Scrambler with a 360.
