Securing Rear Cab Window

Druggies broke into my truck with the intent of stealing it. Happened in Chandler, AZ. They pried open my canopy door, broke the canopy window then proceeded in ripping open the cab. They tore uo the slidder as well as breaking the glass. One of then squeezed through to get into the cab.

My question. Is there a vendor that sells some type of steel grate that can be mounted in front of the rear cab window while still retaining my canopy?

must be a washington term. if you're worried about them breaking the window, why not leave it unlocked? i fish at a lot of remote spots in florida, and if the bandits want in, their going to break in. i leave my doors unlocked, since there's nothing of value inside. have they ever been inside? i don't know, but i did have a window broken once before, even though nothing of value was inside. i learned that lesson, the hard way.

that being said, i've never seen anything that's just a window screen. headache bars are great, but probably won't work with your topper/shell/cap/canopy. expanded metal could be cut into a window shape, and have a frame added, then bolt it to the front of the cap/topper/shell/canopy. this would likely result in your truck side window being broken out, if a thief really wants in.

Just need to keep them out of the cab. Drug trafficers down in Arizona look for 4WDs to steal. They use them in the desert to transport their product. Once the vehicle breaks down they just leave it.

Most are illegals looking for a fast buck from the trafficers. That explaines the destroyed strreing column. They didn't know what they were doing. I would of much rather have them steal the stuff out of the back of the truck than get in the cab and destroy the column.

In this case they didn't steal andything out of the back and took some odds and ends out of the cab such as my first aid kit and some misc change.

How much room is there between your topper/canopy and the back truck window?
Expanded metal comes in many sizes, but it will all need to be framed to be effective. The thickness and design of the frame and how its mounted to what ever its mounted to, will be the issue. You can just cut the expanded metal over sized and bolt it to the canopy/topper with bolts and self locking nuts, but you will have to remove the canopy to do it. Expanded metal is generally not cheap, and comes in 3' x 8' or 4' x 8' sheets. Some places don't like to sell just a part of a sheet. You will want to see what is available locally to you and determine how large of a piece you will need. Gene

i use an ultra club, when my cars are parked. this helps keep the amateurs away from the idea of stealing them. you can also get a cool lock that goes from the brake pedal to the steering wheel. making it harder for them, will usually make them look for an easier mark. a hidden kill switch is also something to consider.

even if you secure the back window, you still have side windows. kill switch, and/or shut off valve in the fuel line, makes it harder to get away, if they get in.
