Broken Speedo Needle

Broken Speedo Needle - 04/13/14 03:26 PM

Anyone know where I can buy a replacement needle for my '78 D150 Club Cab? Not exactly sure what happened, but the speedo freaked out and pinned, and broke the needle in half.
Odometer and needle still work now, but it only drops to 10mph at stop, and reads about 10 high when driving.
I have a A518 trans.

You need to replace the speedometer head.

Do you know if the needle will pull straight off the head, or is there anything special I need to do to get it off?
I'm thinking I'll just find a head that has a good needle and take it off for mine.

i've had several break myself. a tiny dot of superglue will put it back together.

Thats what i was thinking. Just pop a different needle on. My 1980 has the same problem.

If the speedo went whacko and wrapped around breaking the needle, and now reads fast and doesn't drop all the way, I am thinking the magnet/spring (drum?) thing in the speedo gut has broken ... and you need another speedo.

I have had that happen.

Unless accuracy is not your goal, and if so, why worry about the needle?

Yes, I believe the needle will pull off ...start with the broken one, you've got nothing to lose.

mine works ok. just for some reason 1/2 the needle broke off
