gas tank sender wire ??

gas tank sender wire ?? - 03/14/14 04:35 AM

ok need to know how the 85 sender works with 2 wires.

is 1 wire a ground since the tank is plastic and no clip on grounding strap from sender tube to metal fuel line.

on of the wires has a tracer down it the other does not.

could I take a test light and check them to see if it is a ground or a hot wire with key on?

the sender in the new tank is supposed to be correct ohms for the dodge gauge but only has the 1 stud/terminal.

thanks

My 81 FSM shows 2 wires for the sending unit. A white wire for the ground and a light blue wire for the sending unit power.

looks like mine is a light blue with black tracer and a yellow wire.

testing with a test light and key on??? does that tell me the hot from ground?

Yeah, it should. A DVOM would be better though.

No, I dont think it should... The yellow wire is a ground. It goes to the rear on left frame rail. The blue goes to the gauge. If you ground this wire the gauge would swing to full. The gauge gets its power from the back of the dash. 5 volts. The sender limits the amount of ground to move the needle.

If you ground the blue wire with a test light, you should get a dim pulsating light from the test light, and the gauge should go to full. Gene

got it hooked up,blue with tracer was the sender wire, yellow was the ground.

gauge is working but does not seem to be corret. but close.

I did not ground the yellow wire, so I will go back and ground that to the tank/bolt just for good measures.
