Tailgate question

I bought an '86 D150 and the tailgate won't open with the handle, have to use a screwdriver on the left side catch. How would I go about fixing this?

replace the plastic clips that attach the rods to the handle and latches..

Shorty treed everyone on that one!

If that don't do it I've only seen one tailgate handle assy wear out in 40+years but you can check while you have it out
