2007 Ram was feeling loose

Guess why....
Worn out hub and bearing on the left side. I've never read or heard of this! Today I felt a vibration and heard a rumbling noise when turning to the right on the freeway. The LF wheel had more brake dust on it than the other 3. I lifted the corner by jacking it up from under the LCA and was able to wiggle the wheel quite a bit. My local NAPA had them in stock : $218 !
I guess this must be a common wear item for a store to have them in stock.

Pretty common, i would use the best available (SKF/Timken/Mopar) hub. Cheaper ones wont seem to last very long.

I bought the Timken bearing.

Thats why we are going to install a set of Yukon conversion bearings/hubs on my buddys 01 Cummins 3500 4x.

I can see this being a problem on a 4x4, but on my 2002 Ram 2x4 the front wheel bearing could not be repacked You have to buy a complete pre-packed hub...Evidently re-packing wheel bearings is not done anymore or there have been too many failures by guys never trained in the art. I learned from my one and only failure nearly 50 years ago.

Just about every car and truck on the road 2wd or 4wd has the unitized bearings. They do fail just like a packable style bearings that a large portion of owners fail to maintain. My last 2002 4 x 4 2500 with a cummins had one bearing fail in 148,000 plus miles. It cost me 200.00 and maybe 1 1/2 hours to repair. To me that's not bad. If I had the packable style I would of had to service them about every 20,000 miles. That would of been about 3 to 4 hours plus seals and anything else that could go wrong. For the majority of owners who are not mechanics the unitized bearings is a good deal. If I had paid a shop 200.00 each time to service my bearings I would of paid in the 1,500.00 range for just that service over the 150,000 miles. Paying retail parts and labor for my one failed unitized bearing I would of spent 500.00.

I had an 84 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd that went 420,000 miles before I replaced any front end parts. Regarding this Dodge, I was surprised by the early failure since it was unexpected.

Yep, pretty common for them to fail. I just had to replace them on my 07 as well, 130k miles and redid the whole frontend due to bad death wobble.

Yup, and good luck separating it from the knuckle, they suck. Snap on makes a tool that's uses power steering pressure to help press it out. Dhp1 is the part number.

Mine popped right out after removing the 3 bolts. Maybe your climate results in more corrosion?

I bet 1980 Volare thought you had a 3/4 or 1 ton. They are held in with 4 bolts and require a little more persuasion to get out of the knuckle than the 1/2 ton 3-bolt style.

I agree its common for them to go bad.Dosent seem what vehicle either.Replaced a lot at the shop.Be glad they arent like the early Mopar type like in Neons etc.They had to be pressed in and out and the hub is usually reused.I also agree with no cheap bearings.We had a few customers at the shop want cheap.They didnt last long.Most were going bad again within 4 months or so.Rocky

The first one I replaced on my 03 Ram was actually cheaper at the dealer than at NAPA. My NAPA guy sent me to the dealer because he said he couldn't touch their pricing. The fact that he knew that gives you some kind of idea about what kind of crap those hubs are.

The reason they fail is they don't have enough grease in them to dirty the palm of your hand.
