1987 Alt fusible link ??? - 12/26/13 12:25 AM

Changed out the alternator on my 87 Dodge 3/4 ton today. When I hooked the power cable back to the battery, My wire harness to the cab
Smoked and I believe I blew a fusible link.

Put the old alt, back on and hooked battery back up, Truck starts

But when I unhook the battery truck shuts off.

So I am assuming the fusible link for the Alt is blown out??

I pulled the harness out of my 83 Ramcharger parts truck, But I am going to check Napa for new ones tomorrow..

The fuseable links are on the inner drivers fender. Very easy to check..

Thanks for the tip, Larry. My '87 is temporarily laid up because of several small issues among them the gauges on the left side of the instrument panel (Ammeter and Coolant Temp) do not read at all. The PO did some silly wiring that I have fixed, but I have not fixed all of his efforts. Fortunately, I have all the rest of my life to do so.
