Anyone move their leaf springs inside the frame? - 11/06/13 01:46 AM

Im in the middle of getting some stuff together to relocate my leaf springs to make room for the new fatties. So far i have acquired the car front leaf hangers, new perches,a piece of 6"x3"x1/8" rectangle tube for the front xmember (i know its huge, but it was free and matches the frame dimensions) and some 3/16" flat bar to box the rear hanger sections in. Im just gonna flip flop (driver to passenger, and so forth) the rear hangers and refab some new xmembers for the rear and for the shocks mounts. I have a 20' stick of 1 1/2"x3"x.120" tubing on its way for those. Anyone else done anything similar to this? Mind shedding some light and maybe throwing some ideas or pics my way? thanks!

kenworthGoose did this by boxing the inside of frame rail and moving the hangers to opposite side and mounted them same place but inside frame.

then narrowed the 8 1/4 truck axle to tuck 21.50 in the fenders on 12 or 14 inch wide rims. (cant remember off hand now)

IIRc someone else did a dakota the same way, just swap sides with hangers and boxed the frame to mount them on inside.

i plan to weld ladder bars in line under frame rail, add coil overs, pna hard rod, will truck sites on the stock springs with the flip flop it has now.

this will keep my pinion angle and ride hieght where it sits now. handle a little better for street duty with the ladder bars spred a little wider under the truck instead of being narrow inside the frame rails.

Id put sleeves where the bolts go through the frame to the boxing so that there is no crush when the bolts are torqued..

I really like the looks of Morissons 3 link system.. I blew their pic to size, looks awsome on paper..

I was just gonna weld the hangers right to where i box it instead of trying to bolt them on,and yeah just use them on the opposite sides that they are on now. That 3 link does look pretty freaking sweet. A little pricey for me,but definetly worth looking into.
