Alright so my brother has a 94 5.2L Grand Cherokee. Been a great first car for him except for a reoccurring coolant leak. It leaks from the lower left side bolt on the water pump that goes into the water jacket. Bolt was sealed with loc tite thread sealant when we put it back together with a new water pump several months ago. All the bolts for the water pump are new. Anybody have this happen before? This is the second time it's done this. Both times it happened out of the blue, with the jeep just sitting there parked.

Is the Locktite thread sealant Teflon type pipe dope? I'm guessing it is. I have used that successfully on wet WP bolts. Also RTV. I think the key is cleaning as antifreeze does not help the seal. After draining coolant, I hit the hole with fresh water. The bolt also. I use a nut or die to clean the bolt and a bolt or tap to clean the hole. When all is clean and rinsed, I dry it. Compressed air first followed by heat from hair dryer or heat gun. When all is clean and dry, dope up the bolt threads and install. I bet that fixes it.

Positive it's coming from that bolt and not just "getting there from somewhere else"? Mine had a leaky waterpump...until I tore it apart and noticed it was the bypass hose leaking and seeping down the pump instead. Also had one that turned out to be a pinhole in the soft plug behind the motor mount.

I could also be between the block and the timing cover at the wp bolts. I've had that happen.

It's probably time for a timing chain, too, just be careful to save the silicone oil pan gasket when bringing the timing cover out.
