Diesel doesn't have a catalytic converter, it had a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).
It works to remove soot, ash, and other particulates from the exhaust. A catalytic converter would melt down with all the oil from the diesel fuel.

Are you sure they were cats? I have looked into this and there is a lot of conflicting info. But most agree that sometime in 08 was when the diesel cat was installed.
On diesel bombers forum many of the thought to be cats were either the muffler or resonator in the exhaust.
Converters on a diesel are news to me, my appologies for missinformation. And still not sure how they made that work. Since diesel fuel is such an oily product how do they keep from plugging and melting down the cat? What purpose does it serve? In a gas engine it burns up extra unburt emissions. This doesn't seem like it would work in a diesel engine.

Yep, they do have cats on diesels. Along with a bunch of other junk. My 2011 Ram has 5 separate devices in the exhaust. Even some of the earlier trucks had cats if they were on the left coast.

I first saw cat converters on diesels on the Hummer H1 back in 1998. Maybe it was a California thing and other states adopted them at a later time.

Most tuners that deleted them are now out of business ..
I think you can still find them but, expensive ..

Might have trouble finding a Delete pipe for the same reason
although, I'm sure someone will sell you what you need

for my own education, are there sensors or something that can tell if it's installed or not? IT shouldn't be that hard to buy a section of pipe long enough to replace whatever component you're trying to remove.
a trick we do on the Dakota's when deleting the cat is to leave the downstream O2 sensor hooked up electronically, but zip tied to the frame rail so it's reading ambient air. tricks the computer into thinking that the cat is working REALLY well.

Yep Tom, there are sensors. They are needed for what is happening at the engine. The delete kits get rid of EGR and the dumping of raw fuel to burn out the filters. If you do the deletes and don't change things downstream, you will set codes.

You have to buy a tuner (if you can still get) I went with a Smarty Jr and you have to remove everything at the same time. DPF, EGR Cooler and install the tuner. I did away with the cat, dpr, egr cooler, and the piece on the intake. Turbo back exhaust w/muffler. Did the work myself, the whole 9ydrs was about $1,009.00. the truck will get 22mpg @65mph.
