75-80 Gauge bezel and radio measurements

75-80 Gauge bezel and radio measurements - 09/22/13 02:09 AM

I need to know the dimensions of the center section of the 75-80 gauge bezel. I'm talking about the part that contains the four gauge cluster, speedo, and radio. I don't really need the rounded ends yet, just the rectangular section. Also, if anyone can, I need the dimensions of the radio faceplate. Not the opening, just the radio itself (the inner silver outline in the pic below). I want remove the idiot lights and move the radio down to make room for gauges above it. I plan on using sheetmetal for the bezel instead of hacking a factory piece. Thanks in advance.

Did you try measuring yours? The radio is the same dimensions as an aftermarket as they fit in the hole.

I'm in Korea, so no-can-do. As far as the radio, I want to remove the idiot lights and move it down to make more room above it. I'm not replacing the radio, just relocating it. I need to know the minimum opening size necessary. The factory hole is huge compared to the radio itself.

My goal is to replace the factory bezel with a sheetmetal one that has enough room for all of these gauges. The radio will occupy the green rectangle.

the measurement of a standard DIN slot is 2-1/8” (50mm) height by 7-1/8” (180mm) width. mopars (from the time period you want) have a DIN and a half opening. so, the radio would need the full width of 7-1/8" wide but an installed height of 3-3/16". (180mm X 75mm)

looking at yoiur radio, you could always just trace the outline, of the inner chrome surround trim. that seems to be the actual minimum face you could show, if needed. you can also buy DIN and a half mounting plates, and use one to fab up your setup.

If your in Korea how are you going to make the dash piece?

This is exactly what I want - the absolute minimum space needed. I'd love to measure one myself, but as I said earlier, I'm in Korea.

I'm not going to make the final piece yet, just a mock-up to see if everything fits right. I'm in Shops Platoon, and one of the shops we have is sheetmetal. I have all the material and equipment I need here. I just need to know the dimensions of the rectangular section so I can see if it's all going to fit. I have full-size printouts of the gauges so I can use them for my layout. If it works, I'll make the whole piece when I PCS back to the States.

You are aware of how the radio mounts behind the dash plate!? Their are two locating holes for the screws, and a locating pin too. Also, the whole thing bolts up into the gage bracket behind the dash plate, not the dash plate it's self, and uses a nut plate to bolt the back of the radio to a brace. Just wondering how your going to eliminate the gage/radio/warning lights bracket (some are metal, some are plastic)?

I'll fab a bracket for the radio. Nutplates, rivets, and the like are no problem. The sheetmetal shop has tons of them, no matter where I'm stationed. I don't plan on mounting the radio to the new bezel. The gauges will because they'll be Auto Meters, not stock. I've already thought about all of this.

Here's what I would like to have - measurements of the flat, rectangular section of the gauge bezel and the smallest possible opening size for the radio face, both outlined in yellow. I need the measurements quickly because Auto Meter is having a 10% off sale through the end of the month. As expensive as these are, it'll make a huge difference. But I can't order them until I know everything will fit. If I wasn't on the other side of the world, I wouldn't even be asking this.
