Need carb # for a 78 b200 van w/ a 318 - 09/17/13 05:27 PM

Bought a 78 dodge b200 with what I think is the wrong carb. A Holley 2 bbl looks to be the right fit. The one on it does not even have threads for the air cleaner stud. Van has cruise. The vin is....B21BF8X122503
I would like to buy a correct reman but don't have a number. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried any parts stores? They tend to have the correct carb listed.

My parts store can't figure it out. There are AT LEAST 12 different options...... The carb that was put on the van is obviously not right.... The one I need has a threaded carb stud hole, a vacuum pod for the choke, and a plug for some wire.

I really doubt there's 12 different carb choices for a 318

California vs federal/canada emissions

standard vs automatic

high altitude vs low altitude ect... Without looking in the parts catalog I can easily see several different part numbers.

The real difference between all of them maybe nothing more than a jet/needle size and some adjustment settings but back in the day all of those little things made each carb p/n unique to its application.

78 2bbl 318 would have most likely had a carter BBD.

Rockauto shows only the bbd only 4 carbs shown at Advance Auto. Still don't see 12 variations. You have to tune them for your location as in altitude

make sure on the engine size, by the VIN, the van is a 360, or at least what it left the factory with.
If it is a 360, then it would be a holley....if it is a 318, then it would be a carter BBD or holey replacement carb....
good luck...

So... I called an older Dodge dealer and had them run the vin.... They said it was a 360 built in Missouri with federal emissions, and a 6-10,000 GVW and it came with a holley 2BBl. he gave me factory 2 carb #s to choose from... R8925A and R9816A. I crawled under the van and had a look at the block #s and it still is the original 360. so I went to my local bumper to bumper and they said I now had two choices, and only one is available... lol .... United reman # 6-6264.... It will be in later today, and I can take a look.... It should be way closer than what's on there...

You probably should have checked to make sure what motor it was from the start
