They made a hotter Ignition box for the truck V10 you had to use Premium with it.

I TRIED THAT! PARTS WILL NOT WORK

Really! I was always under the impression the truck was a retubed viper motor

There is nothing shared between the two except for bore and stroke in the first years.

There never really was a market to support that engine. It is what it is and you can buy headers redily and that's about it.
You want to be different? Search a company to fab you up a rear turbo kit and customize the PCM.

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/28/13 01:12 AM

You could have had a V8.

There's nothing stopping you from porting the heads, getting a cam reground and putting headers on it, 253 HP isn't bad for a stock truck.

something isn't right there...

is it REALLY only 253?

a 5.9L V8 had 250 hp stock.

mine has a cam, intake, headers and a computer re-tune, and I'm putting 285 hp to the wheels.

If I remember correctly stock V-10 was 310 HP and 450 lbs, torque new.

I will put $$ on 450tq & 310 sounds about right.

Loved my 98 QC V10 truck...
Kinda wish I could find a low mileage 4x4 without rust!!

It's 253 at the wheels……that's not bad

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/29/13 03:24 PM

I remember reading an article in a Mopar mag about intake mods on the then current Magnum motors. For the V10 they said to mill a slot in the intake bores at the throttle pad down to the balance hole. This would raise HP in the upper RPM's. I may still have that article...

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/29/13 04:51 PM

A couple of turbos would increase power by a lot.

http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/more_power/V10.htm

has old V10 perf part numbers useful in eBay searches

In the late 1990s ramhack (Christopher J Siano) in Ashland MA bought a kit and ran a supercharged iron V10 Ram with 32 lb/hr fuel injectors that seemed to do quite well

http://web.archive.org/web/20000523104430/http://www.off-road.com/dodge/Features/ramhack.html

In Pompano Beach Florida there is a racing shop that usesstroked Viper V10s in European style endurance racing whose in house crankshaft machining equipment makes long stroke cranks from V10 Chrysler forged blanks.
My memory is fuzzy and a Google search does not bring them up, but i think they go as large as 4.5 inches.

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/31/13 12:20 AM

and by the time you hunt down all these specialty parts (and obsolete/unobtanium stuff), and get them to work together, you could have easily dropped in a 450+ hp v8 motor, with a pile of cash left over.
Posted By: WO23Coronet

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/31/13 02:49 AM

A 450 HP V8 wont compare to a tweaked v10 in a 2500 Ram

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 08/31/13 10:26 PM

the iron 8L V10 is a specialty truck engine for towing

even though it has a reputation as a gasoline hog, back in 1994 Dodge was quite proud of that this 488 ci engine had a better BSFC than the GM 454 V8

there is a SAE paper on the development of the iron V10 that emphasizes its below 3500 rpm towing capabilities

http://papers.sae.org/933033/

Allpar has a pretty good write up on the tech

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/V10.html

sample quote

A Helmholtz resonator intake manifold was tuned to boost torque at 1700 and 3300 rpm. Long primary runners curved over the right cylinder bank to clear the hood. Resonance in the 25-inch primary runners enhanced low speed torque, with peak torque as low as 1200 rpm. Two plenum chambers supplied air to five runners each. Plenum chamber volume was tuned to resonate at 3300 rpm, broadening the torque curve. Passages across the longitudinal center of the manifold fed air from the throttle body to the plenum chambers.

longtime Chrysler engineer Willem Weertman has a section on the V10 in his book "Chrysler Engines"

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/02/13 06:56 AM

I specifically bought a diesel because of how much towing I had to do to clean out the yard of junk cars. I can say I never even considered a v10. Half I saw for sale over the past few years needed an engine. I'd build an older truck with a 440 before I'd mess with a v10 for towing.

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/02/13 11:53 AM

my v-10 will roast the 285 75 16 tires and i roast most stock diesels on the road including duramax, cummings ford 6.0.now the turned up diesels will probably smoke my truck.as for building a 440 for towing i have 2 440 trucks they have same power but there is no way i could haul 10000 pounds of load with those without running premium fuel .v-10 87

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/02/13 01:26 PM

Wow! I say we got off track for BUBBAZ. Unless you turbocharge that iron V-10 I think you will end up with truck that gets single digit mileage all the time.
I say trade it on an SRT-10 truck and be done with it. There are plenty of parts for that.

I have driven a v10 dump truck before and it had no problem burning the tires off. It also had no problem stopping at the pump often

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/03/13 05:54 PM

At one time. I bought the Borla headers, cat back dual Borla exhaust, Jet stage 2 chip, 160 T-Stat & K&N Filter for my V10. My Boss at the time just bought a brand new V-10 Ram for himself & paid me cash + some & took all of my stuff & installed on his truck. Complained for months that ever single thing he did & nothing changed. Performance all felt the same. Mileage didn't seem any better. Just sounded louder to me like a UPS delivery truck now. I never re-ordered all of that stuff for mine & to this day is still all 100% stock.

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/22/13 12:44 PM

I've got the stage II jet chip in the box if you want it. Only had it on the truck for a month. I liked the throttle response when I put it in, but I had to run premium. When I sold the truck off, I forgot I had it in the garage. Now I doubt I'll ever reuse it. I'll send you a PM.

Re: V10 HP PARTS - 09/22/13 01:04 PM

Thinking about this thread, I wanted to point out that the biggest improvement I got was going to shorty headers. I bought Gibson ceramic coated stainless ones and got 10% better gas mileage (10 to 12 so big whoop. Also, throttle response without even replacing the rest of the exhaust. When I added the Jet chip I needed to run premium gas, but felt the off throttle response even more. Just my $.02 from my experience.
