Tire height for lowered trucks? - 05/13/13 10:08 PM

Looking for the best tire height for a d150 with the 3" van lower control arms and the axel flipped on top of the springs in stock position.

That depends on taste aswell. You can run 185/65-15s up the something in the 20" rims. Width and height is really your call. Some guys like 275/60-15s all the way around but I find it Hideous. A member on RCC has 30x9.50s and says they clear on his lowered Rc. I ran 205s to 225s on my clubcab with cut coils and my truck literally road on the bumpstop brackets.

I have 255/70/15 in the rear & 225/60/15 & the rear is still 1/2" lower than the front & I have an axle flip with van LCA's & stock springs

I wanted the tires all the same size so I can rotate the tires. I have two new 255/60/15 that I was thinking of using. Maybe 225/70/15 as they are 27" tall.

Well I think Im finally going to work on much 80 shortbox those summer. Will need a mini tub. My dad called me a couple nights ago and said he had some wide tires. Now I have some 29x15.5 15s. Scratch what's your bs on your rim?

Snafu 8" wheels are to wide for most 60 series tires.

But took the truck for a drive and it was fun!

Re: Tire height for lowered trucks? - 05/18/13 08:13 PM

Nope. 275/60 calls for 10" (correction 9.5" for 17" Rims but summit only lists 2 tires)
An easy way to see what width rims a tire calls for is go to summitracing.com and search the size you want, click on it and read the specs. Same with tirerack.com but when you click specs it gives a list of that tire in diff sizes aswell

Summit you can also choose max widths etc in your search
Heres a start

I haven't measured the Rims yet but assume they are 12" wide with almost 7" bs. Here is why a tub would be required. Tires are 29x15.5-15

Re: Tire height for lowered trucks? - 05/20/13 01:10 PM

I like the looks of them on the car,I would run it.

when rickster put the 29x15x15 under his truck with the truck axle he used a 10 rim with 7.5 BS.

remember on my truck I have the A-body 8 3/4 and use a 12" wide rim with a 4.5 BS.

I wonder if a 12" wide rim with the 7.5 will fit?

going back to stock springs on mine raised the rear wheelwell a few inches above the tire,so it "could" sick out the fender lip a little with no problems.

SNAFU fixed they sent me 7" wheels so the tire selection is easier now!

Re: Tire height for lowered trucks? - 05/22/13 02:15 PM

BTW: how wide where the original steel Rims on a 1979 D150?
7' I guess...
how much Backspace did they have?

I have 255/70 15 at the rear and 215/75 15 at the front.
The rear sits lower than the front. I think I go with 31x10,5 if they
fit on the OEM Steelies....

Ok but do they fit on a lowered truck? After Axle Flip the Rear drops at least 4'

Lower your truck and put some on and you'll know. I know 30x9.50s for because a member runs them on his Rc
