Eric honestly the hemi won't hold a candle to the power of the diesel. If you are already used to the power the diesel makes you will be dissapointed with the hemi.. Had both no comparison.. Don't get me wrong the hemi runs great but the torque is not there.. Just My

I'd agree with above, I've owned and towed with both, the cummins will make it tough to ever be satisfied with the hemi as far as towing.

I used to have an 06 2500 Hemi 4x4 truck... loved everything about it except for the MPG and the death wobble..

Now have the 12 2500 4x4 Cummins and am kicking myself for not getting the better motor sooner..

The only big problem I know that is fairly common with the '06 trucks is the Fuse Panel (TIPM). They have internal shorting issues that can't be repaired. The part is about $800 plus paying the dealership an hour or so to reprogram it.

There's a few guys up near that part of the state. Clem, Gus, Rick Gorski, Mike Ross, etc.

If you don't mind a little mileage on your truck. Been looking at this one myself and trading up a little, but not sure. Its a stick though! I only like the 6-speeds.

Not directed at you but the seller.

25k for a truck with 163k miles ???

That's almost as silly as guys that want 15k for a 99 with 250k ...

what is the truck you would be getting rid of and how many upstate winters has it been driven in ?

Re: I think my truck is totaled..:( - 05/09/13 04:33 PM

The question is not "how many miles on the truck?" but "how many miles are left in the truck." That truck looks like it has a lot left in it

I hate stinky diesels and would take the slacker Hemi, it is not fast but it is fast enough

Re: I think my truck is totaled..:( - 05/09/13 05:00 PM

I looked at a stinky 05 with 1M on it a few weeks ago. I wouldn't be afraid of buying it. Try that with your factory bolted together 'hemi'. It was a well maintained hot shotter.

Well, If I were to consider it, he would have to come down a few...But diesel truck prices for non-emissions trucks have been going thru the roof. Add to that it is a 6-speed manual, and you have a pretty expensive truck.

The truck I have is from Georgia, and has seen 1/2 a NY winter. Its a 2001 HO with a 6-speed and in very nice shape...Probably tows better than the newer ones.

When you are talking pickups though, especially if they are from states in the rust belt, it's definitely how many miles are left. The engines will go many many miles, the truck itself is a different story.

I have one with 238k on it , engine has another 238k in it , the truck itself does not, but I take some of that blame.

For me, it has to be a manual trans, and 2006 or older...

no problem, with any of these dealers, cash talks, they always start out on the high side. Not sure where he gets them, some are trade ins to them but they gotta be buying them at the auction too. The owner also owns the local dragstrip in Byron.

Don't rule out a 2007 because you could still get the 5.9 for half a year.

Re: I think my truck is totaled..:( - 05/12/13 03:31 PM

I traded my 04 4.7 with 42k for an 04 Cummins with 163k a couple of years ago. Best thing I have ever done as far as vehicles. The 2500 looks great and has been flawless with the exception of rebuilding the front end. With the steep mountain passes around here, I will NEVER go back to gas for towing. With my overhead camper on it and towing my off roader, it doesn't even breath hard. The fuel mileage is an added bonus.

Around 223k on my 01 in the rust and I'd say the body even untouched would easily last another 200k. The way I use it, there's always enough mud underneath to keep the salt from getting to much

Re: I think my truck is totaled..:( - 05/13/13 01:31 PM

Eric,

Did you drive one yet? The pickings seem pretty slim right now, but for me it has to be a manual trans. I had test driven a bunch of autos when my '98 was ready to be retired, and my '98 with the original auto and +330k on it had a better trans than all of the ones I test drove.

Seems if you get a used one with an auto, keep a few $$$ in reserve for a rebuild, and that ain't cheap on one of those. Stick, has been so reliable, its not funny.
