holley dominator intake

holley dominator intake - 04/14/13 05:54 AM

been loooking to find a spredbore alum intake to give a try under the edelbrock 1905 q-jet. on the 440 truck just to compair to the RPM/q-jet thats on it now.

picked this up here in the MoParts for sell section. thanks Kudakidd

it has had the ugly EGR pad removed and some webbing removed on the front but just needed some of the mods to be finished.

so a few mins with grinder & sanding rolls it cleaned right up.

got the plenum opening gasket matched for the 3/4" wood spacer also.

now what carb to use? does one use a holley carb only on a holley intake?? I am sure Holley would say yes to that. and I am sure edelbrock say the same on their intakes and carbs.

so q-jet it is then.

now to drop it by the welding shop at work to weld up the EGR holes along with the 1 hole in the plenum floor. that should allow me to run it with the heat crossover open with no leak at the plenum floor or the 2 ports at the rear of the heatcross over.

Those intakes seem to work great. Like a dumb ass, I HAD one and left it on a 73 Challenger I sold a few years back.

holley gas holes = 850 mech double pumper with annular boosters?

but then again it has small 55 jets in it.

do annular carbs run that much smaller of a jet than say a 3310 750 carb ?? are annular boosters that much better?

looking at the summit house brand carb like this one. they have jets in the high 70s?? think I will bump them up to the spec summit shows and give it a shot.

I really need to learn how to tune a holley carb.

this is what I have been reading here on moparts.

thought I would scratch one up and play with it.

the q-jet on the RPM intake is getting 15 MPG if i keep the RPM right at 2000 or below on the highway. = about 50 MPH

going to run a 2.76 gear next. by the math is should raise the ground speed up to 55-60 MPH thus droping engine speed down to 1850 RPM at the sweet spot.

then I plan to swap only the intake to see which one nets the most gain on MPG on my stock lopo 440.

I am surprized the high rise RPM intake does this well on MPG using open adaptor/q-jet carb on it. the edelbrock 600 was good but 4-5 MPG less with it.

Run the Q-jet. I have never run a Holley on that intake, only T-Q's!

SFT, the Holley carb you have is an orphan. It's a 40/41 type carb which doesn't have removeable float bowls as you can see. The top comes off instead. Holley made it around 1990, supposedly patterned off a carb they built for Motorcraft although I am not sure on that. When Holley rediscovereds its High Performance roots they dropped the line.
I believe it uses regular Holley jets.

If you want to see something similar in a regular Holley, the 6210, 6211, 6212 carbs are spreadbores.

Re: holley dominator intake - 04/15/13 07:54 PM

yes,I have found out that info doing some research on it a while back.

I see it seems to be the summit house brand carb now days as it has summit where this one has holley.

it does look like the ferd motorcraft annular boosters from a ferd 2-v carb when they are removed.

it does use standerd holley jets.they are small in size at 50-55

to me that sounds way lean and prob why the guy said it did not work well.

all I found wrong so far is the accel pump was shot. so I replace the rear 50cc pump and the front 30cc pump along with both PV that are 8.5

I am going to fire it up this way to see how it acts. then maybe bump the jets up to the same specs on the summit house brand 750-850 carbs.

I was told you can go a lot smaller on the jet size with annular boosters but I have never tuned a holley.

it seems as simple as a edelbrock the way the top is a 1 piece. to me it looks like a q-jet/edelbrock/holley hybrid.

only thing holding me back right now is...do I want to spend the $ on a duel feed line for it or just rig up to clamps/hose for T&T?

I have a holley 650 mech double pumper spredbore car as well, the 6210/6211 IIRC I will be trying it as well maybe. but really lke a q-jet.

Go to the Holley Terchnical pages and click on Carb Numerical Listing.
The 4010s and 4011s are on the last two pages.
Your carb is either a 650 or 800. Looks like you need to be looking at a 60 or larger jet, but check the carb list number against the page to get to stock jetting.
Let us know how it works, those carbs are CHEAP!
