Kickdown linkage options 318 4BBL 84 truck - 04/05/13 01:25 AM

Whats my best bet for Kickdown linkage for my 84 D150 with a 318 4BBL?

Are all 318/340/360 kickdown linkages the same? I know theres a 3 piece mechanical version and the 2 piece version which is the solid formed rod & of course Bouchillon performance & lokar cable versions

If anyone has some good pics of the complete factory linkages on there small block trucks so I can see what the whole linkage looks like to know what im looking for, because I might have one and not fully know it lol. I have some pieces, but I think they might belong to a 440 but not 100% sure.

any help
thanks

Anything but Lokar.

I am using a BPE kit but still prefer the simplicity of the factory setup.

But I haven't seen too many 318 factory 4 bbls. If you're not concerned about a resto, go with a cable.

I guess im really asking if a 340 & 360 4bbl linkages would work on a 318 with a 4BBL?

No clue on the 340. 360 without question, if you look in the parts book the parts for a 318/360 4bbl are the same.

yes the 4-v linkage is the same for 318/340/360 only a slight defference in the rod to carb depending on what carb was used..thermobog or q-jet

different yrs may have slight changes on the adjustment, some are up top only, some are down low only, some will have both upper and lower adjsutments.

some are 3-piece and some are 1-piece rods.

trucks used a 1-rod linkage..but a 3-piece set up from a car will fit and work with a slight mod to the down rod.

Does anyone possibly might have some pix of the actual 4bbl truck linkage to have some thing to go by when im out & about looking for parts? lol.

I have the factory 2bbl prebent rod from the truck, is it the same as the 4bbl only the part toward the carb is alittle longer? thought about cuting & threading it to extend it to length.

Here some pics of 2 different throttle brackets refresh my memory on what they fit

Also my top side will be 600 CFM Holley 4BBL & edelbrock peroformer intake manifold if this helps

& please tell me that im not gonna have to change my throttle cable just going from a 2BBL to a 4BBL?

Consider it done! No need to change it.

the bracket on the right looks like a tall 4-v bracket. it would use the long flat bar on a stock intake/q-jet.

the 2-v rod is bent different and shorter. but could be used with a longer carb to bellcrank flat bar/rod.

for a holley you will need the mopar/holley throttle adaptor and then use a stock throttle stud.

I have used 2 of the flat rods bolted together to make a carb to bell crank flat bar long enuff to work.

here is what I have. 2 complete set ups for a 85 4-v truck.

have some extra flat bars, short or long.

brackets can vary in shape somewhat, but all place the bellcrank in stock location.

2 rods short of a 3-piece set up.

I just swaped a 4-v 3-piece set up on my 85 truck. used the LD4B intake/square-spred bore open adaptor/q-jet with mopar throttle lever.

had to splice in 2" of round stock to the middle down rod to get the adjustment in the middle of its travel/throw.

I can post a pic of that in the am if you want a looky see.

Re: Kickdown linkage options 318 4BBL 84 truck - 04/10/13 01:33 PM

I would say yes. it is taller than the one on the left.

and looks like the one in my 3rd pic. you would need to tweek the 2-v rod or find the correct 4-v rod.

the trans will use a long TP lever.

FYI,they have short and long and have the D-hole clocked in different spots to adjust the ratio.

so you can mix match them to get it spot on with the adjustment in the middle of the ratio( I hate it when you are on the tippy end of a rod and still need a tad more adjustment. )

I have plenty of the levers and linkage parts if you need something.

I know how that can be,I touched a piece of duct tape and 3hrs later I had a new alum intake swaped on to replace the duct tape.

what sux is I have a SB rpm intake in the mail heading my way. why oh why did I touch that tape.

next week I guess I will swap the LD4B for the RPM and hope I dont need that piece of duct tape as I tossed it in the trash.
